Trannies!
2 beautiful Harajuku girls Big day... Great day!!
This morning we headed off to Harajuku to check out the freaky girls.
We went to Machida, then caught a transfer into Shinjuku (the busiest station in Japan - every workday 3 million people pass through it!). We discovered that I had been an idiot and put a cleaning tape into the Video camera, and had not brought any spares with us, so we had to find an electornics store and buy some replacements. So find them we did, we also found a zoom lens for our new digital SLR camera - usually it retails for around $800 AUS - Kristy bought it for 15000yen (about $165 AUS) - bargain! I sooooo love Japan!
So we went to Starbucks, then caught a transfer over to Harajuku.
To be honest... we were all a little dissapointed at first, as the council had closed off most of the area that the freaks hang out in (so they could extend the area - make it all pretty-like), and it was a bit rainy, so there were like maybe 8 girls max (and 2 of them for trannies - cool trannies... but still trannies)
So we
Stitch
The coolest teddy bear ever! went for a look along Takeshite Lane - this big mall thing where there are sooooo many cool shops. I felt cool just being there! Man, words cannot describe it - if you ever go to Tokyo, you have to go the Harajuku - understand??
I bought these ultra cool shoes - and an ear spacer - and everyone there looked so good!
We walked around for a while, and then we grabbed some lunch and headed back past the freaky girls, and by this time there were more there. They were interesting - kinda scary... some were really nice, but then others would hide their face away and shooo you away (just quietly - why else are they there if not to have their pics taken??).
We went and had our lunch in a park, before Meg set off an alarm in the toilets while looking for the flush... In Harajuku, in the park, you walk along a path, and all these bands set up their gear (leaving about 50 metres) and play songs all day - it is so cool. We watched this awesome rock/hiphop crew for a while, and also this way cool ska
More freaks
Some of the scarier ones type band - with red suits, and gogo dancers and everything!
We walked accross the road where lots of stuff seemed to be happening, and as luck would have it, we stumbled accross Earth Day Tokyo 2006. All these hippies, and activists. Really cool, not at all something I was expecting to find in tokyo. There were so many stalls - it made fair day look like a church bake sale! seriously - it was huge! there was even a guy selling didgeridoos... And a stall called 'the sloth club'... And people selling Corona!! All good baby!
By then it wa spitting a little bit, so EVERY japanese person grabbed a 100yen umbrella and the rest of us just tried desperately to avoid serious eye injuries.
We walked in towards Shabuya (where Lost in Translation was filmed) we stopped at a geek store along the way to rival all geek stores - so so cool. They even had Gumby stuff! And remember Alf... he's back! in Pog form.
We went in to the main crossing, where there are massive buildings with giant screens streaming ads, and huge bilboards! They have a scramble crossing there, and when
Wannabe Geisha Harajuku Girl
Well stocked up in the attitude department... the lights change, its just crazy! So many people!
We then caught the train back to Shinkuku, then transferred back to Machida - then on to Yabe. Once home, we had a coffe and a sit down, before heading back to the pub that we went to the night before (Ricks bar) this time to meet new people at Cameron's work.
We played darts, and Kristy totally whipped everyone's butts! it was so cool. And over here (at this bar anyway...) they keep tabs, so you just order stuff under your name all night, and then at the end, they hit you with the bill when you're 3 (or 18) sheets to the wind, and you don't really care! Its great! And they have really nice bar staff, one we chatted with for a while, coz he likes Kristy's hair!
We got one of the lst trains home, then passed out (to stop the spinning!) and slept and slept and slept.
Anyway! still having a great time! Hope you are all enjoying the blogs! And the photos!
Love you all
