The lovely Pearl Tower there and other sky scrapers in Shanghai's Pudong district
Well hi everyone.

We touched down in Pudong International Airport two days ago now and caught the fastest train in the world to Shanghai which was a pretty cool way to get there. No problems getting anything so far but I'm sure the Chinese just humour me when I attempt the language. Got to our hotel pretty easily but was harrassed on the way by 70,000 people (unofficial figure) shouting "HELLO!" and "Do you wanna buy DVD, watch or shoes?" Pretty amusing the first 3 times. Not so much now.

Managed to stay awake all day and got an excellent nights sleep. Shanghai is amazing. The road we are on is called Nanjing Dong Lu and is the main shopping street. Neon lights everywhere and everything seems to be either yellow, orange or bright red. They love their bright colours. Strolled along the Bund admiring the Art Deco and eaten at some nice street stalls. Also used chop sticks for the first time which Laura was better than me at. Who'd have thought that!?!

Checked into the Hiker Youth Hostel today it's not too bad. Going to the Shanghai Museum this afternoon. For the rest of the time

in Shanghai we plan to go to the Old town and the French Concession to wander round the streets, may go on a cruise on the river too. Anyway that's about it for now,

Zai Jian!

It all sounds pretty crazy in Shanghai - I keep on trying to picture you two out there but it's really difficult considering I've never really been any furter east than...Norwich. Doesn't sound too different from Elephant and Castle though, I get hassled to buy pirate dvds all the time. Hey if Dad was there, they'd be sorted! Since I can't pictre you, I'll give you a mental image of me - it's sunday morning, pissing down with rain and I've been sat in my pyjamas watching the London marathon for the past few hours. Wish you were here?! Still missing you loads, lots of love xxx

Shanghai high street looks like Essex round Christmas time. Just missing a giant illuminated Santa, sleigh and Reindeer. Have you found out how to pronounce the currency of China yet?
