One of many pictures of churches to come.
The second day Nancy had to work so I was on my own to terrorize Montreal and I hit some pretty interesting sites. As always I was hungry so I needed to grab me some food. I figured that being in Montreal I had to try some regional dishes. Well me and Mikka found ourselves a small little pub on St Catherines St and had a smoked meat sandwich with a pint of Belle Gueule beer. Talk about tasty, this thing was AMAZING. When I first walked into the pub they greeted me in French so I tried my best "bonjour comment c'a va?" which was followed quickly by English only service, I guess my French accent needs some work. After that it was just a matter of randomly wandering around Montreal and I found some pretty interesting things out. They do have Macs convenience stores out here but they are called Couche-Tard, kind of strange but its all good. After that I wandered around some more and found myself in the Montreal Museum of Contemporary Art and I can honestly say I was quite amazed! They had a temporary collection by German painter Anselm Kiefer and it was very impressive.

If you Google-Image search some of his works you will see what I am talking about.

After that I found my way down to the waterfront by the St Lawrence River and it was quite a sight. When you walk around down there you can really feel the history of a city like this. Everywhere you look is old buildings, cobblestone walkways and statues of the great men and women that founded this great country.

From there I found my way to the Basilique Notre Dame de Montreal and words and my pictures could never do this place justice. I have never seen a church like this in my life. I am sure that I am going to see some amazing ones over in Europe but as with anything you first time is always the most memorable. From the intricate woodwork to the amazing stained glass windows words just cant come close to conveying the feeling of total breathtaking awe that I felt after walking through the main doors. I can honestly say that walking into a house of God like this would turn the heart of even the most devout atheist. I had to light a candle

This building was as amazing on the inside as it was on the outside.
for my trip. I already have travel insurance from The Flight Centre but I figure a little insurance from above could never hurt.

What else is there to do in Montreal? How about watching my first French language NHL game at a sports pub! Habs vs Devils. This place was crazy, no matter where you looked you could see a huge tv and the place was jumping. Even though I couldn't follow the announcers the excitement came through clear as a bell. The Habs were up 3-1 going into the 3rd but them damn Devils came back to net 3 goals in the 3rd to take it 4-3. That really took the wind out of the sails of the fans but it was still a really good time.

In my family, we've started calling photos of churches we can't remember the names of "ABC"'s. (Another Bloody Church - or castle) I'm so glad you're having fun!
