Day 16 - Nothing planned except to catch the 18:11 Guangzhou - Shanghai express. Took the free ferry across the Pearl river as it was right outside my hostel. The ferry docks at the wholesale fish and turtle Market, all the goods on offer were very much alive. Took a trolley bus ride to a large electronic parts mall. Wandered through the wholesale clothes Market where hundreds of people were carting huge bundles up the road, it was like watching a human ant colony at work. Bought supplies to last me for a 16 hour train journey.

Day 17 - I opted to travel cattle class on hard seats, so not the best of journeys. Slept on floor as did many others. Many interesting sights on route. The Chinese are massively expanding their high speed rail network, contrasting sights with the new construction work and the the traditional buildings and farming ways. Arrived on time, checked into hostel and had a brief wander around Shanghai.

Shanghai 16 & 17
You're seeing different sights to Jen and Sean. I wonder if they roughed it. Being me I wondered about toilets etc. but maybe real travelers don't bother about not getting a wash!! And I wondered about real Chinese food? We now have a smoke alarm fitted, courtesy of the social services - very neat one. It's in the middle of the hall. I was at drama when the man came and when the nurses came this morning I was asleep on the sofa. I was so tired. Dad seems better today except for his painful ribs and we send our love. Keep the news coming. mumX
