JFKJFKJFK

Final resting place of JFK
At the present moment in time i am in Montreal, but im gonna post this blog ( DC ) and New York's today and tommrow as im a bit behind but at least i finally have some pictures on! Will add loads more on the next one for your viewing pleasure. Peace

Right, DC is great! Had a fantastic time here, partly due to the people we met and also the attractions on offer. There was so much to see and do that we couldn’t fit it all in but did our best! After getting amazingly sunburnt on the first whole day having showers and even sleeping was not nice, typical ginger. That didn’t stop me though ( what a soldier ) and we decided to get up early on our second day and stomp down to the Washington monument to get tickets to go up it. Walked there quickly and got there for about half eight which was still too late, apparently they sell out before eight which was not nice, annoying. Quite tired at this point so what do we decide to do….walk for another forty or so minutes in blazing heat to the Arlington cemetery, superb.

Another moving tribute to the war dead from Arlington Cemetery.
The cemetery was a sombre experience, the eternal flame burning behind JFK’s grave was a poignant tribute. We also visited the natural history museum which mostly consisted of stuffed animals and gemstones…! We spent ages there…

Sorry, when I say ‘we’ I am referring not only to myself and Fran but to some awesome people we met at our hostel. Ed, Carleen, Octavio and Nicolene, sound people. We met them all on our first day/night we were at the hostel and the company was much appreciated, a good time was had. Ed is a fellow ginger warrior, safety in numbers. Anyway, Ed and Carleen queued up for ages for tickets to go up the monument. Fantastic views, cheers for that Ed/Carleen! The same day we also did the Air and Space museum, another huge museum, very busy. Took us three hours to do it, and even some of that was spent missing bits out cause it was getting heavy on the legs, how weak! All museums in DC were free by the way which was brilliant on our purse strings. The sun loved me again, im frying everywhere I go! Also did some boozing in the hard rock café,

Me and Fran in Georgetown University, beautiful historic building, nice pose.
nice cocktails.

We also went on an evening walking tour around Georgetown. We saw JFK’s birth home and last residence before he became president. After the sightseeing we ate and drank till late in a place called Tombs which was used for filming in ‘St Elmo’s Fire’…ive never seen it but the owner ( who was excitable, sweaty and balding with all the grace of a swan with a lead choker ) gave us a long history of the pub…’all the stars came in here back in the day..’….yeah ok.
Also saw the steps that were used in ‘The Exorcist’, really steep and haunting! Fran tried to push me down, no change there then!

Got a really nice send off from the guy’s we had met which was a really nice gesture, cheers guy’s!
New York next, be in touch soon. By the way I have sorted out a travel blog account so all my future reports will be accessible via the address at the end of this email. You will all receive a mail when I post something new, sweet.

Keep it real
