The first blog from our new 'house' in Banff...
We have been here a week now, settling in and doing odd jobs (getting social insurance numbers etc) and meeting our other house mates.
We're in a house full of englishmen, 6 lads and 3 girls plus the g banger and me, and so this morning when i unwrapped my parcel from home, the Aussie flag is now proudly flying in the front window of the house for all to see!! I've been told the cross of St. George is on the way to hang next to it.
Banff, really is as beautiful as it looks, surrounded by snow capped peaks, a quiet main street with deer and elk eating the grass around all the houses.
Been out on the beers a few times, playing darts and pool, drinking pints and cheap voda. The highlight always being on the way home, no kabab, but a Poutine (a Canadian delicacy, of chips and gravy, with cheese curds melted in)!!
Had even more beers inside the house, watching the best of American sport, the NFL, Major League World Series, and the start of the NBA season!
Our house seems to
be everyone else's favourite place, already been in a little strife from the owner about noise at, and about 40 plus people inside! Good times.
Even enjoyed Banff bingo at the Legions club (there equivilant of the RSL), which was a very interesting experience, one the locals take very seriously.
Another highlight from the first week is waking up to snow falling. We had both never seen snow fall during the day time, so walking around in the falling snow flakes was a definite thrill.
Our house has just been freshly renovated, a nice big LCD tv on the wall with cable, and plenty of living space.
This weekend brings halloween which is a massive deal, the biggest night of the year!
