Grand Canyon
A view taken between showers. Hi Everyone,
This entry is going to be a very brief overview of our trip over the last couple of weeks. We have covered a lot of territory since I wrote last, so it will be just a snapshot.
We left Grand Canyon after bunkering down there to avoid the severe weather and tornadoes that were causing problems in the area. We waited until the weather cleared and finally took our helicopter trip which we were really keen to do. Our photos of the Grand Canyon have rain clouds hovering over them, but I think it adds to the drama!
After leaving the Grand Canyon we drove down to Sedona for a brief visit. We saw the devastation the tornadoes caused along side the highway. We saw RVs picked up and smashed just like matchsticks, so we were so pleased we stayed safe in a motel.
We decided to head north again and see Zion and Bryce Canyons and we were so pleased we saw them. They were so different and we loved the sunrise at Bryce Canyon and the colours and shapes of the hoodoos. At Bryce we also took at walk along the Bristlecone Loop
Zion National Park
The canyon was beautiful. High red cliffs either side of the river and walking trails. where we saw some of the oldest trees in the world. These trees were only babies, being only 400 years old. John was told that there was a park in Nevada where you could see trees that were several thousand years old, so we had to go!
After we left Bryce, we headed up to Nevada, to the Great Basin National Park. This park has an amazing cave with formation not seen anywhere else, and of course the famous Bristlecone Pines.
Large trees and large canyons were next on our list at Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Park. We drove through a forest of giant trees and saw the largest tree in the world, called General Sherman.
We drove south after leaving Kings Canyon and today will visit our last National Park, "Joshua Tree National Park", which is a desert park.
I will send my last entry from LA in a couple of days.
