Buenos Aires

Well we finally made it to Buenos Aires via Perth, Sydney and Auckland. It is very strange trying to get our heads around the time differences. Effectively we left Sydney at 1.00pm on Friday the 8th of October 2010 and arrived in Buenos Aires (B.A) after a 15 hour flight at 3.45pm on the same date. En route we refuelled in Auckland which was a further 3 hours ahead of Sydney time, which is in turn 3 hours ahead of Perth time. We departed Auckland at 7.00pm after a one hour stop, yet got in only got about 6 hours of night time flying as we crossed the international date line into bright sunshine. Our body clocks are still trying to work out what is going on.

Aerlineous Argentinas wasn´t as bad as some people have made out, and it certainly appears to be embracing the equal opportunity training they have received. No hot looking flight glamours employed by them, oh no, Argentinas are more than happy to employ frumpy, average looking 40 something hosties who didn´t seem to smile that often. Still the service was good so I have nothing to complain about other than the hosties not being the stereotypical latina hotties I expected ( I hope they don´t read this otherwise it might be an interesting flight back to Australia).

Some of the fellow passengers seemed very nice. We met Father Ignacio a Brazilian priest who is in charge of a Catholic church in Redfern in Sydney. Good luck with that one. He was on his way to Rome via B A. At one stage we were served our meal which contained some crackers and cheese. I asked Dom if she could ask the good Father if he could break open a bottle of red and we could have communion in our aisle. Strangley she declined to ask him.

We also met a Columbian student named Daniele, who was returning to Columbia via B.A after spending the last 6 months studying English in Tasmania, which is an interesting concept in itself.
He told us he loved Tasmania and loved even more the ´Crunchies chocolate bars. So much so that he claimed his backpack contained boxes of crunchies....but maybe that was just his code word for possessing 100% pure Columbian. He was a nice guy and we are catching up with him tomorrow for lunch at a restaurant he recommended, whose name roughly translates to ´Follow the cow´. Though it was not quite as impressive as Dom´s dessert at the Portuguese restuarant in Sydney on Wednesday night which translated to ´Camel Dribble¨

The views from the plane were spectacular. We saw the Andes as we were flying over Chile. The mountains seemed so close to the underbelly of our plane and all the peaks were covered in heap of snow. Luckily Dom has packed her thermal tracky pants for when we go climbing the mountains in Peru.

Our hotel is good, and the service brilliant. The staff here can´t do enough to help out. We have already been invited to music festivals and football matches. We are based in San Telmo which is a historic part of town with small cobbled streets everywhere. We went exploring after we each had a nanna- grandpa nap due to the jet lag. We found a really nice Italian restaurant which served me with the biggest Calzone I have ever seen, Dom had ravioli with spinach, and we shared a Tiramosu dessert and a bottle of the famous Argentinian Malbec wine all for $51. The strange thing here is that all the locals head out for dinner after 10.00pm and most night clubs don´t open until at least midnite. We also found a pub that does happy hour pints of Guinness and Corona´s for $3.00. I think we are going to enjoy the next few days here before we leave for Lima, Peru on Monday morning.

Young latina hotties?
Nice to hear u made it safely....but we must clarify one point, any 40 year old hostess is 'young' compared to you my elderly friend! There's nothing like breaking bread on a plane with your own personal padre. I'll make inquiries about getting you a portable communion kit for Christmas. We just arrived home from Broome. Everything looking very good. Caught up with JK and MF and everything indicates we will be moving over there before the end of the year. I have one week of holidays left and I plan to spend much of it on the couch in front of the television watching Bali DVD's. Sonia has other plans for me but it will take a lot to get me off the couch! I'll talk to u soon. Remember, don't accept lifts from stangers and don't agree to deliver any mystery packages for people you don't know!
