Good Morning Everyone!

It's time to break the silence. I have been busy over the last several months putting together a rockstar trip to New Zealand. I am doing an intensive independent study of the Bio-Acoustics of New Zealand as well as a cultural 'game-changer' look at the evolution of the NZ music scene. Dates: Dec 21 -Jan 8.

The varied geographies and ecosystems of New Zealand are brimming with life, and thus there is an immense land brimming with musical potential. The waterways(rivers, streams, oceans, and waterfalls) and diverse habitats of New Zealand are some of the most active and enticing- musically - in the entire world. My goal: to capture them and make music.

Itinerary:

Christchurch--> Lake Tekapo --> Mount Cook --> Queenstown --> Te Anau --> Milford/Doubtful Sound --> Glacier Region --> Abel Tasman National Park --> Nelson --> Kaikoura --> Christ Church

It's a packed trip for ~2.5 weeks, but it will be one to never forget.

Motivating Thought:

“Generally people have the perception that only human beings sing songs and create music. If they paid closer attention and listened, they would find that nature creates music on its own behalf, sometimes utilizing the same scales, rhythms, and harmonies, as humans do. Trekking locally, I recently encountered twin cascades dropping into a wonderland of pools. Stopping to listen closely, I observed that the cascades were tuned in perfect thirds.” - Jim Nolman

I will be updating this periodically as the trip approaches with updates and progress. Also, as much as wi-fi allows I will be updating the blog during the trip. So Please Join Me, December 21 2010 through January 8th 2011, as I live out one of my biggest dreams.

Nature songs
Hi Sarah: Looking forward to reading your blog when you explore the music of New Zealand. I love the nature music. I wish you would make a recording of all that you "hear" and use it for a future cd. In any event, angels on your trip. Have fun. Mimi (Carmel's friend)
