I'm an aerospace engineering undergraduate with a dream to change lives for the better through revolutionizing aerospace transportation. Aerospace technology has enabled us to reach 'round the world, make connections, support, defend, and explore like never before. I live for Exploration.

I believe music is the biggest force force realizing cultural understanding and networking.

I'm also passionate about music technology.

My adventures usually involve some combination of: music, drumming, kayaking, hiking, hang gliding, laughter, being lost, and food.

Come, let's go on a journey.

Today we celebrated the super sweet 24th birthday of a one of the Purdue guys. We sang him happy birthday and he got to blow out a candle and make a wish! The Purdue team is super sweet, we hope they do well in the finals. Later we went to Hong Kong's 'local' theme park, think Sea World without the brand, named 'Ocean Park'. Our 'adventure' in the sun turned into a three hour sun drenched march to our concussion-inducing roller coaster. OK, it wasn't that bad, but that kind of rollercoaster wouldn't fly in the States. Thursday, was the finals of the Global Student Challenge. We held our fingers for our friends from Purdue, though they were all good! Later that night we found out that they took home the grand prize. A truly sweet, ... read more

Good Morning, What an eventful two days it has been. Monday was mainly focused around the semi-finals competition. We got an early start to our day (7:15am) and prepped up until we had to present at 2pm. Our presentation went super well, and everyone loved our song! (Pictures to come later in the week of that). We did not make it to the top 6 final round, but as the announcer said "There are winners and winners" and as our Canadian friends said "Now we can party hardy". So we celebrated with all of new friends and went to downtown Hong Kong. Wow! So many people out and about for a monday night! Several of the bars and pubs even had music, live bands, and dancing! We danced our socks off until 3am. What a remarkable ... read more

Hello from majestic Hong Kong! The last few days have all been all blur from driving from Savannah to Atlanta to make my three flights with barely enough time between each to even catch a breath! Nevertheless, though, we made it to Hong Kong. This is the most interesting country to see from an aerial view(airplane) upon landing. Seeing first these smaller rugged islands admist the wave-filled ocean, and then immediately coming upon larger 'island-like' formations with rugged mountainous landscape intertwined with tall, and yet taller, skyscrapers above tangled highways. It's a contrast unlike any other. The city itself is full of contrast. Huge skyscrapers with tiny, tiny, stores lining the streets. Immense technology development but a somewhat slower pace of life. Everywhere we've been so far has been greeted with kindness from of Hong Kong ... read more

Day 13: Today we visited the seal colony in Kaikoura. Despitaye our greatest efforts we could not get the seal to bark or howl at us. C'est la vie. The drive back to Christchurch was quick and we were greeted to a free BBQ put on by our hostel! Finally food in NZ I can afford(eating out is terribly expensive here). After dinner we were so fortunate to be able to meet with an amazing Maori singer/song-writer, Ariana Tikao, for coffee. Ariana shed some light on her compositions and how her culture weaves its way into her music, among many other things. Ariana was a humble, bright, and encouraging dive board into the heart of contemporary-traditional NZ musicians. She also gave Evan some very much needed pointers on how to play his bird chirper instruments. These ... read more

Day 10: The long drive up the west coast: pancake rocks, night stars, and river crossings We left to be “On the road again” (which must be at least be a bit of our trip theme song) around 10am to drive up the second half of the west coast to Nelson. Today’s drive was absolutely stunning. Several more ‘Camera Fire Drills’ ensued as we made our way from the jungle landscape in the glacier region to the beaches near greymouth, punakaki, and others. We stopped along some beaches for pictures, some impressive swell recordings, rock digging, running, and simply admiring landscape. At one point we ran across some towering rock formations out in the beach, standing up courageously to the battering waves. We finally made it to Punakaki to the famous pancake rocks and blow holes ... read more

Days 10 - 12 Glacier Country to the Top of the Island Day 8: Happy New Years Eve… Let’s Drive Today was the first long day of driving, 6.5 hours from Te Anau to the Glaciers. Nothing too exciting happened today except for some more heavenly scenery. Evan is really getting better at taking pictures, and we played ‘Camera Fire Drill’ where I would let him off at a scenic road point, drive a few kilometers and turn around and come fetch him. The products of this are shown in some of the pictures. The highways here are unbelievably curvy - behind every bend was a fresh treat for the adventurous eyes. Until tomorrow’s adventures… Day 9: Franz Josef Glacier Hike… Today we took on the steepest and fastest flowing commercially guided glacier in the world. ... read more

Day 7: Park Soundscaping and Glow-Worms We arrived safely in the southland, and after a quick breather at the hostel ventured down to the glow worm caves. Lake Te Anau (where we are staying the next few days) got its name from the Maori words for Spinning Water, later the caves were discovered. I had never seen glow worms before, but now that I have, I must say that I think they are the most beautiful bugs I have ever seen. We ventured down in a rickety wooden boat in the dark caves, and the worms lit up the cave like a night time sky. This town has a pretty boardwalk with lots of interesting wildlife, scenes, and sounds. Day 8: Milford Sound Tramping Today we journeyed to Milford sound on our own, stopping at will ... read more

Nothing too exciting to report here in Queenstown I am afraid due to all of the intense rain. It was gorgeous though watching the stormy lake form these big swell and break over the pier. Lots of interesting boats here too. We ate at a magnificent Burger place(Ferg Burger), and ohhh it was good. We also had some of the best pizza I've ever eaten too (at Winnies). Here in Queenstown I got some good storm sounds, popular music, wind, and Maori recordings. Last night we saw a Maori cutural show and I even got to learn basic poi(a 'percussion' instrument, a flax ball attacheed to a string and is swung in circles and striking the body making these visually beautiful rythtms). Unfortunately I was everything but graceful. One other notable thing is that I had ... read more

Christmas morning started off as early Christmas should: early, drinking white hot chocalote, eating danish bisquits, and reading the Christmas Story! Today we drove to Mount Cook, and took many pictures and videos of the beautiful Mackequenzie Valley and Basin we were driving through. After lunch we started off on a 4 hour hike in the Hooker valley just below Mount Cook, armed with the Droid and the Sony PCM Recorder for some off the track recordings. We also got the chance to play our new instruments at the glacier lake by Mount Cook! It was quite fantastic. The lodge had a Christmas Feast tonight, and we gladly partook after our big day of hikinng. Until tomorrow's Adventures... **** Since it is Christmas, where we celebrate the Birth of Christ, I thought you all might be ... read more

After some much needed sleep last night, Evan and I were up early to visit a local retired art teacher and Maori art advocate. Gavin was an incredible, incredible wealth of experience. We were welcomed into his home freely, and the moment we walked in we saw it: The living room table was completely covered in his beautiful instruments. The first few minutes were just filled ith Evaan and I picking up the instruments and admiring their beauty. The culture places a huge emphasis on decorating their instruments with meaningful carvings. Most of the instruments we saw were beautiful carved with figure of the Maori gods, or depictions of some of their legends. What really impressed me most about Gavin was his interest in interplaying the Arts and Nature. What inspiried this study mostly was the ... read more
