What up!!
Time goes by so quick, it's been ages since we last updated our blog and so much has happenend!
Ok so we left chiang mai and got the bus upto to chiang rai. We were stopping in what used to be an old school house, the old couple running it were really friendly, the old guy especially, he had a few words of wisdom to give us every time he saw us.... and they had a whole army of sausage dogs running around the place....the first night we went out for a walk then when we came back to the room a gecko ran out from under the bed and up the wall, Frauke totally freaked out, her face was a picture!!!! I like them now though!
We booked a trekking tour... well it wasn't much of a trek as it turned out as we didn't have to walk anywhere but got driven around. First we got our photo taken with a snake, then we had a 2 hour elephant ride... it was really hard work to keep on top of the animal... and then we went to a waterfall.... that was a disaster.. one of
the worst things ever, looked more like a pityfull shower... nevermind, the hot spa we got in the end was lovely though! All in all we have learned not to get talked into things again.
While we stopped in Chiang Rai, it was Thai New Year, so everyone had a massive waterfight and you got lots of free drinks and snacks off people 😊
We survived thai new year by not going out, after the first 2 days of getting drenched everytime we stepped outside we'd had enough. We started heading south again to start making our way across to Laos, but we never actually got there....We stopped at a town called Phitsanulok, which is kind of a junction town where the major road and rail services split in every direction you could dream of. We were contemplating heading east towards Laos, however after two weeks up and around the north of thailand the temptation to start heading south to the beaches was too much so we packed up and headed out for what turned out to be the WORST TRAIN RIDE EVER!!!!!!!!
The only tickets that were still available were 3rd class; everyone headed back to Bangkok
Our Trusty Stead
The dude "Driving" the elephant made some funny noises to direct it!!! after Thai New Year. we didn't really think much about it and got ourselves a ticket to hell! Well. it was cool in the train car but so unbelievable packed, twice as bad as the tube in London during rushhour. Just UNREAL!!! The ride went on for 7 1/2 hours. Poor Jamie had to stand all the way whereas I 'cheated'. Kind of got a bit too much and I passed out, so an old lady offered me her seat. Which was very kind!
We finally got to bangkok and thought we had slummed it long enough...Air Con hotel room here we come...We had 3 nights there which was just what we needed. on the second day back in bangkok we set out to buy some train tickets south, in my ulitimate wisdom i (Jamie) looked at the map and saw there was a train station to the south of the city which appeared to be where the train line south started from, so we walked ...and we walked ......and we walked...and after about 4 hours in the blistering heat we arrived at an OUT OF SERVICE train station, it was one of those moments when you're so annoyed all you can do is laugh...Ha Ha Ha, good one. And the funniest thing of the whole story is that the train station we needed to go to was just outside our hotel!
So we got our train tickets and headed to Chumphon from where we were planning on getting a boat over to Ko Tao. We unfortunately just missed the last daytime boat across and had to get the night ferry.. evil, evil night ferry! Well, we didn't have to get it; there was the chance of stopping in a hotel but we didn't want to waist another second, we just wanted to be surrounded by palm trees and white beaches as soon as possible.. and oh how we paid for our impatience...
Anywhos, we arrived in Ko Tao and we found a nice place to stay at Bans Diving Resort and we booked up to do our PADI diving course... well as it turned out breathing under water is definately not what God intended Frauke to do... 10 mins in the swimming pool were enough to find that out. But Jamie has done brilliantly, I'm so proud 😊
The diving course was really cool and on the last day they filmed the dives...dvd's in the post mam!!!
After finishing the diving course it turns out there is not much else to do on Ko Tao, and for some stupid reason we decided it would be fun to cut my hair, well i say cut it was more like hack off...then shave....with a razor...and yes, I have a tear in my eye!!!
From Ko Tao we got a lovely express boat over to Ko Pha- Ngan. We have the most beautiful bungalow to stop in ever. It is a little walk away from everything but still close enough and it is right next to the water.
It is unbelievable how warm the water is over here and how nice the beaches are... well kind of everything is just so unbelievable beautiful!!! It is exaclty like you see it on a postcard!
Our visa runs out soon so we have to cross the border.....which one we dont know yet...oh what a life.. bye bye!
