Buenos dias,

So we went to be early in order to be up in time for the 4am bus to Nasca. We set both of our alarms to make sure that we would wake up in time and not miss the bus. Peter rolled over and checked his watch during the night to find out that it was 422am and they had indeed missed the bus.

Frantically, Val and Peter scrambled out of bed and talked to the hostel staff as well as the employee who had booked the bus tickets and the overflight of the Nasca lines. We would have to catch the next bus out to Nasca, arriving at 1pm and she would try to see if our flight could be rescheduled for later in the day after our new arrival time.

We managed to get to the Cruz del Sur bus station without issue and got to Nasca at 130pm, because nothing ever is on time in South America. We frantically looked around for a person holding a sign with our names on it and finally, we found him hiding in the corner of the bus station. He took us to the airstrip and we got to meet our pilot Enrique, who could speaking Spanish, English and Japanese of all languages. Apprently, the Japanese really like the Nasca line. We took off in a small Cesna, sat 10 people including the pilot and co-pilot and had to be the smallest plane that Peter or Valerie had ever been on. The flight up and over the lines only lasts for approximately 30 minutes or so but it is the best way to appreciate the scale and intricacies of the lines, some of which are over 1500 years old! Unfortunately for us, the combination of insane heat, exhaustion and some seriously hard banked turns culminated in a virtually simultaneous vomiting session. Luckily, it was on the return flight to the airport and we did not miss anything.

Once we were back on terra firma, we recooperated for a bit before heading back to the bus station and waiting for another night bus which would take us further south in Peru.

Bye for now,
Peter and Val

Things we learned in Nasc:
-If one has to wake up at 230am, just stay up all night!!!
-Motion sickness bags are provided for a reason!

OK, so I had to google "nasca lines" - now I understand why you took a plane! Hopefully it wasn't too messy (and you can laugh about it later)!
