Edit Blog Post
Emilie, Parlee Beach
Ginette shot this, circa 1986 If you started reading this blog way back in January, I can only thank you for persevering with us for this long and following our trip to the end. This is the final post in the blog and as you might have noticed, there are a lot of photos to get through. 78 in all.
As a reward for your diligence I’m not going to waffle on too much. Hopefully the photos’ll do a good job of telling the tale of our summer, which after Montreal was one long beach bask. The cottages, which are arranged on a plot of land in the little seaside town of Shediac, are a two-minute walk from the beach. So on sunny days we would go to the beach, armed with a good book and a stern determination to get darker than a Hitchcock shower scene.
As well as beach days we went sailing with Em’s Dad Yves and Step-Mum Carmel, and her sister Valerie and brothers Damien and Sean. My Mum came out for a two-week holiday in August, enjoying the beach and days out to Prince Edward Island and Fundy National Park.
There were birthdays and lazy days, and lots
of time spent chillin' on decks. Then when we thought we’d never go back to work or walk on English soil again, it was time to board a plane back to Blighty.
When we look back I can't claim anything profound or life-changing about our trip. I haven’t really learnt anything, other than how to spend your savings in the pursuit of a good time. But in the end, what better reason is there to empty a bank account?
We can both look back and agree that it has been an amazing eight months, and a time that we’ll never forget. If, for no other reason, than because we got to wake up every day and do exactly what we wanted. It wasn’t always easy, but it was always fun. And I’m just glad that in some, even very small way through this blog, you were there to share it.
Love you,
Bye!
