This may surprise many of you but we have made an important discovery. Sometimes the descriptions given of places on the Internet do not lie. Indeed, sometimes the owners actually underestimate their own properties. Scoff you may but I have the photos and video to prove it.

Our 'rustic retreat' which should, in the normal course of events read 'crappy old dump on a main highway complete with vermin', actually should say '3 storey manor overlooking magnificent valley with a wow factor of 10 but still situated close to really cool places'.

Yesterday we set off from Barcelona at the crack of too early and had a pleasant 4 hour train ride to Logrono where we had arranged hire cars. The plan was that the hire car person was to meet us at the station holding up a sign with my name on it. We knew this because it was written in red on the booking confirmation sheet. 'You will be met at the station at 12.00 by a man holding a sign with your name on it'. Needless to say there was no man and no sign so after a wait Donna and Jill set of walking into town to find them while the rest of us guarded the luggage. About an hour later two taxis arrived and took us to the Citroen dealer also doubling as a hire car company.

When I politely asked what had happened the lovely lady behind the counter gave me a big smile and shrugged. When I showed her the big red writing she gave me an even bigger smile and a bigger shrug and said 'No, no. You come here and we hold up the sign'. .... Spain.....

Eventually we set off on an hour and half journey to Zeanuri. Sounds easy enough but it can be somewhat distracting when your beloved keeps reminding you that the bulk of the car is now on your right hand side, not the left as usual, and would I mind not falling off the mountain please. Nag.

After a pleasant evening in our manor, this morning we set off to Bilbao to check out the Gugenheim Museum. Bilbao is an old, old town with lots of historic buildings and quaint streets and charm and a dirty great modernistic structure right on the river. And it works. I have no idea why but the whole lot just blends in well. Clever.

Now I sit looking at my mountain and writing this blog whilst sipping on a Vino Blanca (1 euro 50 per bottle!) and loving it. ........Spain.........

Where are the photos of the beach at that fishing village? Did you get my emai? Happy you are enjoying yourself while I sat through one of the worst speech nights possible!
