My full day in Philadelphia

Today I woke up and walked all the way from the waterfront on the Delaware River, just catching the tail end of the sunset there, to the Schuylkill river behind Philadelphia's Museum of Fine Arts. I walked past the boat houses on the river so I could see the early morning rowers sculling by in their single fitted boats. It was a pretty site early in the morning before the baking heat of the afternoon and especially so with the city rising up in the background. It wa quite a hike but well worth the journey. I got quite a shock when I accidentally walked past friends Max and Rebecca who just happened to be stuck in a traffic jam at the same time. It is a small world indeed!! How did they spot and on Max's first day of high school no less. What are those odds???

It was a quiet morning and early afternoon as I registered online for my Australian visa (an amazingly simple and paperless process) and got it back within hours. Helen and Bob's cleaning lady (Nova) had suffered car troubles and we had to wait for a tow truck to come pick up her

car before going out. We made a journey through Pennsylvania University, passing Franklin Stadium and the Palestra sports facilities, on our way to the museum of Archaelology and Anthropology. There we briefly saw an exhibit on Ancient Egypt just before they closed.

The evening was topped off with one of the best meals I have had in a long time at "Fish"on Lombard Street. It is a quite little place with amazingly creative and delicate seafood dishes. I highly recommend the "Peekytoe Crab" dish which makes Legal Seafood's Maryland Crab Cake pale. They an outstanding beer from Wisconsin made with black pepper that is quite savory with anything spicy such as the mussels with Penang sauce. Their homemade ice cream (made by the Chef's mother!!) and the desserts are a must. (Brown Sugar and Candied Bacon are among the novel flavors available).

Tomorrow morning I am on to Washington D.C. where I will spend the next day or more.

Outstanding and creative seafood dishes!!! A surprise find in this neighborhood. I love how Philadelphia restaurants are small and blend in so well with their environment.
