We had an easy journey to Kuala Lumpur (KL). 1 hour flight, quick hop on the airport bus, one stop on the train and just over the road. Seriously, that was an easy trip. The guesthouse (Matahari Lodge) is very nice and well positioned in bustling Chinatown. The first day was Lou's birthday so we went off to the KLCC Mall (under the Petronas Towers) for a bite to eat and some cinema.

At the mall we went to the food court and witnessed something strange. The place was absolutely jam-packed. It took us 20 mins just to find a seat. All the people had bought their food but weren't eating. Took me a minute to figure out why - ramadan. They were waiting for 7.25pm before they could eat. We arrived at 6.30, and the place was packed with people sat staring at their food....for nearly another hour. People were sat at the sushi bar watching the food go by for an hour. I guess they wanted to ensure they had their choice of food waiting ready for the end of the days fast, but cold food? Plus, after a whole day with no grub,

sitting in front of a Big Mac for an hour would be torture for me. When the call came over the mall tannoy everyone said a quick prayer, then it was carnage! These were some seriously hungry people. A small girl next to me had a big bowl of pasta, with 2 cheeseburgers and 2 portions of fries lined up.

After this we went to see The Expendables (Lou's choice) and really enjoyed it. The cinema is pretty cheap (£2 ish) in Malaysia. I had some popcorn (I love it!), but they only do caramel coated popcorn - Asian's sure do love their sugar. Afterwards we popped outside to gawp at the Petronas Towers. Seriously tall and impressive. Huge erections - I love 'em!

The next day we met a load of great people from the hostel and went for a 'couple' of drinks. We ended up in the Skybar which is on the top floor of the Traders Hotel and has stunningly gobsmacking views of the towers. It also has gobsmacking prices - £6+ for a pint. Beer in Malaysia is pricey, but jeez. Still, the view was worth it. We left at 1.30am, but many stayed out until past 7am. I think 7.5 hours was enough for me.

We've spent the past couple of days doing a bit of shopping in preparation for Oz (warmer clothes needed - how ridiculous does that sound? But, it's only 15c in Melbourne at the mo). I also got my iPhone fixed (yay) and have since jailbroken and unlocked that mofo so I can buy an Ozzy sim. Geeks rule!

We also met up with Rob and Anna (who we met in the Perhentians) for a spot of lunch and a couple of beers. They are the greatest people we have ever met. Anna's radiant beauty and dazzling intellect is matched by Rob's rugged good looks and brilliant mind (Rob - is this ok? Was it too much?). We miss you guys!!

Overall we love KL. It's probably our favourite city in Asia.

Louise's Section

So, we finally landed in KL and so started our Maccy D's obsession, one in the airport, one after the hangover on Wednesday (livened up by the thoroughly beautiful couple that are Rob and Anna), one the same day for tea as we couldn't be arsed to go out and then one the following night as we drank more beer and all the other places had closed!! I may need to buy fat clothing again soon!

We have done a lot of zipping about on the LRT and MRT, usually ending up at a mall for some eating (not Maccy D's), shopping and the cinema. I am so coming back here when I have a job/money for clothes, it's so cheap (except in the Western shops). FYI backpacking girlies, head to the factory outlet store (FOS) at Berjaya Mall and Sungei Wang (or somert) as they have end of line designer and western shop clothes for dirt cheap prices.

We have seen the Petronas Towers numerous times and I still chuckle at Chris working up the confidence to look up. Good job he'd been drinking at the sky bar! We've done the aquarium, Chinatown, Batu Caves and the Reggae bar loads.

Batu caves was fun, mainly because of the Macaque monkeys, I could have watched these guys for hours but was very relieved not be carrying food otherwise think I would be missing a hand.

Ooh breaking news...I have not had any toilet related accidents this week, but still 10 days left so you never know.

The reunion
Sorry I missed the drinking session with the two of you and Rob and Anna. We'll have to plan one someday somewhere in the world. Love the Hutton in Georgetown. Thanks for the suggestion. And yeah, that sitting in front of food waiting to break the fast thing is truly strange. They do it here too. On to Thailand in the morning.

Oz
Hi guys, recommend 3 for pre pay I'd u e in urban areas/ coast. $29 for $150 credit and 250mb data. You can use $5 of the 150 to to get 100 mins to landlines in the UK. Cheapest food here is in the malls too, often in basements. Cheaper than buying and cooking from the super market!

Thanks Rita, good tips. I had been wondering about the best SIM option. I wasn't going to bother with data on the plan, but it might turn out to be useful.
