Bein oh bein oh bein...

Here we go readers, the final country of our tour and so one of the final posts. It's been a long time coming, as Canada was when we were on the road. But once we arrived it was certainly worth it.

We made it up to Canada after getting a painfully early bus from Boston to the border, where Ginette (Em's Mum) and Geraldine (Em's Memere) met us. After confusing the US border cops, who interpreted our search for a toilet as us trying to run the border, we made it into Canada rattled but ready for the wedding.

The reason we arrived so early in June was for Emilie's cousin's wedding, at which Suzanne the bride had asked Em to be a bridesmaid. The wedding was lots of fun, held in a church in the little town of St Andrew's and celebrated afterwards in the hotel in which Stephen King wrote The Shining. Unrelated but interesting nonetheless.

With Suzanne and Dan happily married Em and I settled back into cottage life in New Brunswick. The little town where the cottages are is called Shediac. It's a cute little seaside place with a lovely beach, a nice wharf and Fryer Street, where thieves and boogey-men live if you believe the local folklore. Em's family own a cottage each on a plot of land beside the beach, which makes for an awesome family atmosphere of partying, tanning on decks and meals with more place settings than The Last Supper and more food than dinner at Rick Waller's. But more of that in the next blogs.

While we were based in Shediac, New Brunswick, for the whole summer, we went to Montreal for a week in June. We got a drive with Erica and Karl-Hugo. Erica was Suzanne's other bridesmaid and she lives with her boyfriend in Montreal. We stayed with these guys for a few days at their place, enjoying the city with them. Montreal was hotter than hell, but thankfully much more fun.

The other reason we were there was to review a hotel. We checked in anonymously at the Hotel St Paul, in Vieux Montreal, the old part of the city. It was much fun and you can read the review here:

After that we stayed with Emilie's aunt Danielle and uncle Dennis, hanging out with Em's cousins Fred, Frank and Phil. After a week baking in the city we got a drive back to New Brunswick with Danielle, abiding by her sensible rule of no stops unless you're on the verge of wetting yourself and/or losing consciousness, completing the 10-hour drive east.

Next, which will be soon, I'll post pix of the cottages and cover how we spent two months doing very little, loving every indulgent minute of it.

Love you,
Bye!
