Dear Bah Dan trains,
Thanks to you, and your trains running late, Lauren and I woke up at 3:00am to hop on a train only to miss our connection to Verona. We are now stuck in Schwandorf for two hours. It resembles the downtown Santa Cruz greyhound station very much with quite a variety of “characters”.
There are two restaurants in Schwandorf, both of which are in the teeny, tiny train station. One restaurant consisted of two old men drinking beers at 9:00am, while the other restaurant was full of an elderly mentally disabled couple yelling at one another. We choose this place to reside.
Lauren asked the woman if there are any sit-down restaurants in town and guess what her response was? No. No restaurants in this town. So what kind of town is it you may ask? It’s Schwandorf. There are plenty of psychotic pidgins nesting above our heads, a crowd of homeless men, and LIVER sandwiches. The cashier almost gave me a liver sandwich rather than the salami (semi-normal) one I requested.
So now it is 10:00am and Lauren and I are watching pidgins do a matting dance to one another while one other man sits on a bench across 4 sets of empty tracts across from us. There is a German speaking man yelling at his children, and a man in an electric wheelchair. This is Schwandorf. We have seen one train come through in the past hour that we have been sitting here.
The information desk is closed—naturally. So we asked some police men how to get to “Munch- In” (this is how we pronounced it) and he said “oh, you mean Munich?” then laughed at us. So here we are, in Schwandorf, the most ho-dunk town of Austria (this is where we believe we are located) with zero restaurants and only a few trains.
Direct quote “I feel bad for any person who has to spend time here” -Lauren Volkmann.
We would both much rather be stuck in Lille, France as we were stuck there earlier in our trip. At least they had a McDonalds with internet…
