Jody,
Sorry about the slackness with the write up.
The heat really picked up when we got to biarritz, finally seem to be escaping the British weather that kept reaching out to us. After all the driving we were gagging to get to the beach, me for waves, Anne for sun bathing. With a gentle 2.5 foot swell we both got wettied up and went in the water. No need for the wettie here really as the water is fantastic. The surf was good although it would be 3 days of flat till the surf picked up again.
Campsite was only 5 mins walk from beach so the van rarely got used and the facilities were really good. The shop sells huge bottles of Desparados which is so cool, guzzled a few of those bad boys! This was our first experience having a pool at the campsite and it was really nice, perfect way to escape the heat and cool of for a while. Had a spa pool next to the main pool which was great after a days riding and surfing. The place had a nice friendly atmosphere and I´d definately stay there again although could have done without
the spoilt brat screaming kid next to our tent and the noisy spanish but it was all good really, Im knit picking here.
Got the bikes out on the second day so we can amble around and see the sites. Biarritz has a lovely coastline with all manner of rock formations that really make some great scenery. Took a load of pictures at all the tourist spots and headed back to this great bakery we found on the first day. Pan Au Chorizo is now my most favourite snack in the world! Check the pictures of the bakery, it was amazing.
Anne:
It was nice to get to a campsite and spend more than a few days there, esp one with a pool! Getting on the bodyboards after checking in was lush. The sea was like bath water and I got some more confidence with duck diving and trimming! Then got out for some sunbathing of course and to get some pics of Jody surfing!
Biking round the next day was really nice and the place had a nice feel to it with loads of little beaches. Then back to the campsite for a dip in the pool
and some grub. We took a walk into town for a drink and came across a bar overlooking the sea which was packed with people. We ordered a drink and some tapas and took our spot along the wall only to realise why there were so many people there. The sun was setting right in front of us and the horizon was just huge. Definately one of our favourite evenings so far!
Since there were no more waves til the end of the week we took a day trip to San Sebastian across the border to Spain. After driving through the town centre for about 2 hours looking for somewhere to park we found a cool surf shop and had a chat with the guy who told us it was better to park out of town and ride in, so we found a random restaurant car park and got on the bikes. It was a lovely city and really easy to get around on the bikes. We got a map from tourist info and took a ride to the old town foody part and had some pintos or tapas. It was a bit weird ordering cause you just eat what
you want then pay at the end which is so not British and the waitress lady didn't speak a word of English but it was all good in the end!
Went and looked over the bay for a bit, had a MaxiBon and got back to the campsite.
Jody was getting bored waiting for waves so we biked to a nearby lake which we'd seen on the map but it was a bit small and crappy so we went back and got in the pool again!
Back to the beach the next day for more surfing and sunbathing then on the Thursday night there was a RipCurl music festival going on and the stage was set up on the beach. There were a few people there to start with then by the end of the night the beach was rammed! The bands were cool and mainly sung in English which was good.
Friday morning we packed up our stuff and went to the beach for another surf as the waves were good only to be whistled out of the water by the lifeguards as no one was allowed in. So we hopped around the rocks to the next beach and
Jody had a good session in there instead! We then set off for Toulouse to my cousins house.
xx
