Tea fields, waterfalls, and crowded beaches...
Thursday Thursday morning we woke up, had some instant coffee (because that is all that Koreans drink) and were on our way. Today we went to the O’Sulloc green tea fields. We spent some time reading about the historical importance of tea in Korea and China and then tasted the most expensive green tea I have ever seen. On a side note one of the green tea brewers said that green tea was first grown in Korea and then moved to China. I don’t know whether he was trying to sell us tea or being truthful. Anyways... So... Yeah, $25 for 10 satchels of tea? We also got to see some professional tea brewers at work, it’s quite the art. There was also a little tea museum in the same building where we could brush up on our tea cup making history. Awesome! ...
There were some really expensive brands that went over $500 for only 10 cups of tea. Some people really like their tea! Our friend Alicia ended up getting us the morning blend which was really sweet of her. I must say, the tea tastes completely different
here; it’s a different drink... oh, and desert! Yes, we had some green tea ice cream and it was so good!!! Yummy! Look at our pictures and be jealous! 😊 We also went into the fields of tea and took a look at the bushes. It was a beautiful building and a great little stop!
Then we stopped at the highlight of my trip, the beautiful Cheonjeyeon waterfalls. Because of the rainfall over the past month we were able to see three descending waterfalls, one of which is only visible for 20 days a year. We were very lucky! The first was massive and bellow it was an underwater cave that went down 7 stories. We were not allowed to swim in it though which we weren’t too sad about because the water was ice cold! I think the pictures say it all. We got so sweaty climbing up and down all those stairs to reach the falls, but it was well worth it. Absolutely breathtaking! There was a bridge that went over the ravine that had the waterfalls. The view from the bridge was so beautiful but unfortunately our pictures don’t really capture it. Oh well. Check them
out anyways!
Then we stopped at a restaurant for a quick lunch in which I ordered a soup that was so hot I thought my head would explode. And we were off to the beach! Beach time!!! It was great except that it was SO crowded, and extremely hot! I think that everyone in Jeju decided to go to the beach just when we wanted to... We did some swimming, ate some watermelon, and drank some beer; pretty much as good as the beach gets except for how crowded it was. Then back to our condo for a romantic sunset walk and a shower and then off to dinner. As we were driving we saw so many bright lights on the water and we asked what they were. Turns out that squid are attracted to light and the fishing boats have extremely bright lights in order to attract them. They were almost blinding they were so bright. That night we just got barbeque and then went back to the condo to get some sleep.
