At the Square
So what is Tiananmen square like? Well, it is like standing in, pretty much, a big square, in fact the largest central square in the world. Chairman Mao's photo forms the backdrop of one side of the square (which is the iconic image that you see generally whenever you see photos of the square), on the opposite side is Chairman Mao himself, preserved and available for viewing to Chinese (don't know if they actually see him as we are not Chinese and were unable to enter) and then some sort of military complex/museum on another side of the square. The square holds 500,000 people at any one time (I didn't say comfortably) but while there we shared the square with a mere 100,000.
