our alaskan adventure begins the end of july, however, my sister, marilyn, is retiring from bank of america this coming friday and many of her workmates are anxious to subscribe to the blog so that they can follow her alaskan journey. thus i need to get something up for our blog today.

between writing the first blog and publishing it, it appears THE GINCH played some tricks, for, as you can see, this is a rewrite of our first letter.






want to know the answer to the following questions:


i have heard the alcan highway a rough gravel road. what is diving the alcan highway really like?

do you think you will have trouble with big trucks as you dive the iced over lakes and rivers?

what does gas cost in alaska?

how do you change american dollars into alaskan money?

can you really see russia fom wasilla, alaska?

what about bears? are you taking a gun with you for protection?

are you going to do any fishing?

will you stop for a beer at the "salty dog?"

will you see glaciers?

how will you deal with mosquitoes and flies?



for the answers to those and other questions, follow along on our journey.


many people have indicated they would like to drive to alaska and have asked that we expand the blog to be something that would be of benefit to those considering such a trip, so join us --- start dreaming your own dreams--- as we live out ours.

the blog will begin in earnest on august 1st when when i hook the camper to the dodge caravan and head out.

marilyn will fly up to anchorage the end of august and we will will wander alaska before turning toward michigan. if this is all a little confusing, things will get straightened out as the two month trip unfolds.
