We have been fortunate to explore some amazing beauty spots around Greater Brisbane over the past few months and have fun exploring the high and low lands and we have enjoyed so many new places we plan to revisit again hopefully with our friends and family.

A drive north east of Brisbane takes you out along the Bruce Highway and a road to Bribie Island. Connected to the mainland by a long cuaseway Bribie is a popular holiday resort with sandy beaches on the west side if the island.

A great cycle path starts at Shorncliffe and travels north to Scarborough Point with views out towards the sea all along the way. There are some great fish and chip shops and ice cream parlours to stop at along the way.

Brisbane Forest Park is a short drive north out of Brisbane and offers some fascinating walks. There is jollys Lookout and some great views overlooking Redcliffe. The forests are a living example of a subtropical Rainforest and Temperate Forest with Gum trees and Strangler Figs which adorn the trees.

We came upon this beautiful view after a 4 Wheel Drive through some very dusty terrain in search of some hidden creeks and off track walks. The open pasture fields stretched as far as the Glass House Mountains where herds of cattle grazed amongst the Gum trees.

A walk down a steep path lead us to Purling Brook Falls with our friends Anne Marie and Mark.

Beyond the falls you could walk through a 2,000 year old beech forest. The temperature was considerably colder and the moss and ferns thrived in this environment.

Walking through the forest lead to a number of impressive lookouts across the plateau which were partly shrouded in cloud.

Within an hour of leaving home we found ourselves on straight open roads with vast grazing lands spreading out towards the Great Dividing Range Mountains.

It is difficult to believe that such open spaces are so close at hand. Its here you realise what a huge state Queensland is.

West of Boonah we had a picnic lunch beside the lake. It is used as a reservior as well as a recreational lake that serves South East Queensland.

A weekend spent at Coolangatta was a pleasant place to rest and sit on the beach and read the newspapers. Just an hours drive from Brisbane makes it a quick getaway spot to recharge the batteries.

At the headland point of Coolangatta Beach there is a short walk round to Point Danger and some great views of the Gold Coast in the distance.

Jealous
All looks lovely, especially the trips inland. We never headed West from Brisbane. It looks rather nice. The last one "A Rocky Peninsula" looks like Snapper Rocks on the edge of Rainbow Beach where the hold the Quiksilver Pro. I am so very jealous, I really do love it there. I am glad you are making trips out at the weekends and exploring a bit. I regret having not made more our the opportunity. xxx
