When the sun is out, England shines, and the Peak district with the breathtaking landscapes and historical heritage is one of my favourite places to be. We stayed in a beautiful inn, the Norfolk Arms in Ringinglow on the northern edge of the Peak National Park, with local ales to enjoy in the evening and full english breakfasts to start the day, I was happy regardless of the weather.

We spent the days walking through the countryside and villages, taking in the spectacular scenery. The days are long at the moment, something you miss living in Australia, with the sun setting at around 10pm we could take our time on some lovely long walks. This area is very popular with mountain bikers and rock climbers as its right next to Stanage Edge () and we had fun watching but not participating in their adrenaline inducing sports. To prove our point we experienced a mountain rescue, a climber had fallen and a helicopter was called out, it circled over our heads and landed right near us. It’s impressive to see the emergency services in action but it’s also a stark reminder that even on a beautiful day these sports are still dangerous.

The Peak district features in many films, TV shows and books. We visited Chatsworth House (Pride and Prejudice, The Duchess, The Wolfman etc) where we spent a lovely day, exploring the house and gardens. Sharon enjoyed nosing around in lots of rooms, got annoyed getting lost in a garden maze and relaxed having a wonderful cream tea, a fun filled day for her 😊 We also walked around Hathersage and North Lees hall, the inspiration for Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre, and it also has connections to the Robin Hood story with the grave of Little John.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our little break in the Peaks, fresh air, a little exercise and some more wonderful memories.
