Edit Blog Post

So I have finally managed to find the time to sit down and start writting my first blog for my 3 months of travelling. It was an interesting journey to my first destination just outside KL in Malaysia. A woman sitting next to me on the plane to Singapore was watching what I can only assume was a thriller film, and kept jolting and screaming while the rest of the plane was silent, was quite funny to be honest. However, after 20 hours of travel and 13000 odd kms I finally arrived at Changi airport. I was met by Kish and his uncle who took me back to where we were staying at his uncle's house (such a nice house). The start to my travels was slow as I was trying to get used to the time difference but by the 30th we were on a train to Penang where we met up with Tom and Alec.
We arrived in Penang at 7am after a really uncomfortable sleep on the train and went out to find some breakfast. What I was quick to realise is that out here breakfast doesn't really involve cereal, more noodles and meat. We stopped at this resturant where there were no set menus but instead there were stalls serving all different types of food. I gotta say that there were some seriously mental dishes being made, including seafood porridge, fish head noodles and chicken feet soup.
After we ate some normal food and shook off those weird images we checked into a decent little hostel and got a bus up to a place called Batu Ferringhi where we spent the day on one of the beaches hit by the tsunami back in 2004. Naturally, we got bored of just bathing in the sun so we decided to get pulled along behind a speed boat on what was pretty much an inflatable triangle with two handles to hold onto to. Good times.
So far it has been a pretty laid back experience but we have much more planned in the next few days and will have many more interesting things to report on. One thing I have already learnt is just how different the culture is here compared to the UK and even Europe. Many people eat food with their hands here and I have found that with many of the trains in Malaysia there is a ladies only carrage (I have yet to quite figure out why). One other interesting thing is that it is apparently bad luck to have a swimming pool on the same level as your house? Go figure.
From this point, I have one more day to go in Penang, and then I will be moving onto Langkawi which is undoubtedly where I will continue with my blog.
Peace.
