Korte verhalen over allerlei onderwerpen.

**************
After two very hot months it finally rains. First a few drizzles per day but six days ago it really started to rain. Actually it has been raining for 5 days ! We were hoping it would stop occasionally so we could walk Shasta and get our groceries.
But no such thing.
We had to walk with our umbrellas and get our feet wet. We have lots of dry towels in the closet so no problem there. And besides, one wants to get out of the house now and then anyway.
“You can only get wet, that’s all !“ we thought. And so we did, but we had fun too,
like two little kids with their dog, splashing around in the rain.
It was amazing to see all the small streams that suddenly appeared everywhere. People were jumping around the side walks and street in order to avoid the water. Not only the streets were full with water, it was still coming down from the sky too. Believe us, it’s very hard to stay totally dry, the only way to accomplish that is to stay at home.
When it rains like this, it’s also very humid. Laundry takes longer to dry, if it dries at all. You can take it to the Laundromat of course. But when we passed it on our walk we discovered that you have to wade through the water up to your calf’s in order to get there….
The beach looks totally different too. The water is brown and muddy and the waves somehow look more ferocious than before. Lots of pieces of wood and tree trunks are washed upon shore along with all kinds of plastic “things”. If it’s ever going to be dry we can go treasure hunting again.
Empty, that’s what the beach is right now. No sunbathers, no surfers, no dogs, just
the ocean with a clouded sky above it.
So, what do we do when it rains ? Well, we can still sit (dry) on our veranda, and that’s where we spend most of our days anyway. Hubert got into writing short stories about all kinds of subjects. Some are funny, others scary, really scary! He is also playing more on one of his seven (soon to be eight) didgeridoo’s, trying and learning to find other sounds. Willeke finally finished her painting which she started two years ago, and has started mosaic paintings. They are great fun to make.
Off course we play board games and music together too, and we both love to cook. We are trying out a lot of new recipes which is very much fun. We hardly go out for dinner anymore, it’s like we have our own restaurant at home.
On the picture you see one of our latest creations. Fried chicken legs, simmered in white wine, olives, onions and basil. Accompanied by a green salad with tomato, avocado, lettuce and cabbage. Some toasted bread with herbal butter on the side. It was very delicious ! Getting hungry already ?
Until next time, and don’t come
visit us in May if you don’t want to get wet,
Hasta luego

rain
The articales you write about trips and rain are very good. Bobby said that Sis and I will be there in the most rainy month......July. So your article was some warning what to expect. We just got from about 8,000 mile trip along all the Pacific Coast highway (101 and 1) and back through Denver to Texas. It was very nice and we enjoyed it a lot. Later..........Love, US2
