So, I eventually got round to doing something other than wandering aimlessly, eating and sweating. I had a touristy day of visiting the Grand Palace and Wat Pho. Both were extremely impressive for different reasons: The Grand Palace is incredibly ornate and beautiful and the holiest site in Thailand, while Wat Pho is a nearby temple which houses the reclining Buddha (a 46m long, 15m high golden Buddha, looking quite chilled out). However the heat of that particular day was almost unbearable, and combined with the huge numbers of tourists wasn't the most relaxing of days but was enjoyable nonetheless.
I also had a less touristy day of walking through the amulet market (purchasing an amulet to guard me from evil throughout my trip) and some of the local markets where I was the only non-Thai face around which seemed to cause some amusement to the locals.
As well as learning about the Thai culture I have also learned some more interesting features of Chang Beer. After watching the footy at a bar and getting chatting to a guy from New Zealand who was visiting Bangkok on business for the 40th time he lead me to a local snooker
hall where we proceeded to play three whole frames which took us to 6am! The Kho San Road looks slightly different at that time!
Although I have enjoyed Bangkok I've definitely had my fill of it for the moment so decided to start moving south with a cool Texan girl called Monique. We're due to take a 14hr overnight bus down to Krabi (near Phuket) tonight, so I'll keep you updated when I've checked out the beaches, snorkelling and sea kayaking down there.

What's happened to Jon?
Nice to hear fun is being had, but is anyone else just a tad concerned that Jon is supposed to be using this site to keep us updated and let us know he's still alive, and yet he hasn't written anything for a full week? Not that I have an overactive imagination, but what if that amulet didn't work and this Monique girl isn't everything Jon-boy thought she was...? Jon, if I'm thinking things like that, think what your poor mum will be worrying about! Give us more info! xxx
