Goodbye Highlands
A cute little town 21st Feb Goodbye Highlands. Steph and i head out together for PENANG/Georgetown and as soon as we got down the mountains it was bloomin hot again. Damn. The bus ride had really good views of the mountains and it was quite scenic which was nice for a change. Once being dropped off by the bus in Georgetown we start walking to where we have some accommodation prebooked. We were heading in the right direction until Steph asked for directions (even though i reassured her we were going the right way! Hello indiana here) We ended up being told to go another way which ended up being the wrong way. So we walked more then we had to and once arriving at the (back)packers we find out that even though we had prebooked our accommodation from the highlands, there was no bed for us. Some travellers were meant to leave but they decided to stay longer. The owner tried to get us to pay for a more expensive room but we refused. We ended up getting two mattresses on the floor for less then the price we were going to pay (5RM) so we didn't mind after that. (Fingers crossed no cockroaches
Leaving Cameron Highlands
From the bus. Really beautiful crawl in our mouths!) So we get into our room and take off our packs and we have sweat all over our backs. Really gross but i still had to get a photo of it to show you all....The day was pretty much over by then so we just decided to go to the shops so Steph could get a haircut and i just wandered around contemplating getting my ear pierced!!! We had a very yummy dinner and the best strawberry icy ever. On the way back to the packers we needed supplies and i wanted to get a water boiler (buying water everyday sux and the plastic bottles are really bad for the environment!) So we get what we want and then head to the checkout. Steph goes first and gets a plastic bag even though i have a calico that i was willing to offer her!!! i notice that all the shop assistants are giving out bags, get a little upset but get my calico bag ready for my one item of a water boiler. But when its my turn i tell him that i don't want a bag but he refuses to not give me one. i

Me sewing my button on the bus. Travellers don't have mums to rely on for this stuff!! tell him that i don't need one and i will be walking straight out of the shop but he still doesn't acknowledge my request and starts to put it in a bag, saying that it's store policy to give a bag. i again tell him i don't want a bag and that i will not buy it if he has to give me a bag. well it ended up that he didn't sell me a water purifier and i walked out the shop in a huge huff and again, Steph got to see another side to the moo. "The Fired up Greenie!!"... i was very mad!!!!
22nd Feb Today was a full on tour day. it started in Penang State Museum which was very small and a little tacky but got to learn a bit about Penang. We walked around seeing Fort Cornwallis, the esplanade, had some lunch where i tried a penang laksa but it was terrible so i ended up with pinapple fried rice and it was great (dont say i haven't been trying things either!!). Then the art gallery which was also small but ended up being really good. i got a great quote from there
too. "WHAT YOU DO NOT WISH DONE TO YOURSELF, DO NOT DO TO OTHERS", or in malaysian "Jangan memperlakukan arang lain sebagaimana anda fidak ingin diperlakukan"... We then caught the bus to Penang Hill as we wanted to see Kek Lok Si Temple which ıs apparently the biggest in Malaysia. We eventually got there but had to walk through these markets which was bizarre. We also got there too late in the day to see the 3rd largest reclining Buddha whıch was the main reason for going there!) We then went up the Funicular Railway to Penang Hill and it took over 1/2 an hour to get up there as it was so bloomin slow. We got talkin to a Canadian couple in the carriage who were pretty nice. We saw some awesome monkeys (later fınding out they were called Dusky/Spectacled Langui) that were awesome to watch (unlike those ferral ones!!). We then caught the railway back down (we should have jumped out and rolled down as it would have been less painfull!!) catch a bus back to town and eat Indian for dinner before going back to the packers and organisıng our stuff once again. Earlier in the day
Enough sweat for you
Something i am sadly getting used to. All part of travelling i guess.... we saw a sign saying "Wed night free drinks for ladies" and we decided it was about time we got pissed. So we tried to get as dressed up as we could (utter failure by me...cargo pants rolled up as it was hot, black singlet, blue thongs, fuzz ball hair, oh i did have mascara on and nice earrings!!! complete dissaster!!!) i set my alarm for early the next morning for our ferry to Lankawi as i knew that i would be too pissed to do it when i get back to the packers (organised freak). An old man staying in the room tells us that he will be getting up early and that he can wake us IF my alarm doesnt work!!!
So we head out to start at Coco's getting ourselves a few vodka and pinapples. We stayed there for a while before heading to a place called Slippery Senorettas which was more of a nightclub, but still free drınks. We end up seeing the Canadian couple from the funicular and dance the night away with them. The girl (also called steph) slapped me a few times on the ass...not sure if she was just friendly or
My bed
with my inflatable pillow hitting on me infront of her boyfriend! hihihi... We have no idea what time it was when they started to kick everyone out as it was closing but we had no other choice but to leave. We even tried to get more indian but they were closed too. We were going to just stay up for the early ferry ride but got too tired. i had the best few hours sleep in ages...
23rd Feb We slept in!!! My alarm decided for whatever reason not to go off (sabotage) and the old man wakes me at 8:15 when the ferry left at 8:30, even though he told us he would wake us at 7:00. We think he had it out for us. (Probably something to do with him telling us off on the first night for talking too loud in the room!!!) So we rush to the peir and just made it for the next ferry at 8:45. if we missed that one i think we would have had to wait till the next day!!! We just nursed our hangovers on the top of the boat breathing in the fresh sea air and listening to our ipods. It

with beautiful mask too was then that i realised i had left my spare camera battery and the battery charger in the packers! (rang him and he had put it aside for me but wanted me to call back when the boss was working...) So we arrive at Langkawi and have 1 hour to kill so we eat then get on another ferry which got us to SATUN (pronounced satoon) THAILAND yippieee finally. We were both so excited and the beach was calling to us. But we needed to get the ferry from Pakbura to get to our destination of Ko Tarutao National Park. So to get to Pakbura from Satun we rushed to find a Sawngthaew (two row benches on either side of the truck) refer to picture, where we got swindled by them telling us that we will still make the ferry at 3:00 even though the drive takes 1 1/2hrs and it was now 2:00. so we pay the 900 baht (worked out later way way way too much) and when we arrive at the peir we are really mad as we have missed the last ferry as the last ferry is not at 3:00, its at 1:00. Once again we

i want my house to be that colour have been swindled...so frustrating. We found a cool place to stay for the night shopped around for some food to take to the island (always check the date as they sell stuff with an expiry date of 2004!!) We had the yummiest cheapest pad thai and had some great belly laughs (at the expense of stephs tooting!!!) before hitting the hay. Hello Thailand. Its so good to be here...Sawasdee Ka
