Our first few hours in Amman were a bit of a gongshow, considering we were dropped off at the wrong bus station, but with the same name as the one we were looking for. So, after wandering around completely lost for a couple hours in 30 degree heat and our big bags on our backs, we finally hailed a cab and he took us to the area for free (we must've looked desparate!)... But those few hours of confusion are no competition for the following several days in Amman!

We spent the rest of the first day shopping in the souqs (bought a hookah and other souvenirs) and visited the 6000 seat Roman Ampitheatre that is plopped right in the middle of town! Bonnie was supposed to fly out this evening, but the volcano in Iceland was causing havoc with flights and we couldn't find out if her flights were cancelled from anywhere. After several hours of checking the internet and calling offices, we found out just 3 hours before her flight time that she was staying...

The next two days were spent primarily in Lufthansa's office, with a short jaunt to Royal Jordanian's office (in which we accidentally ended up walking into their worldwide call center at one point), and more time in Lufthansa's office. We did manage to visit a massive Citadel which was used and built over several thousands of years by multiple civilisations and do a little more souvenir shopping in the souqs (thanks for sherpa-ing my souvenirs home Habibi!!).

In the end, we managed to get Bonnie a flight straight to Chicago, but with no guarantee of a connection home. She ended up doing a lot of walking in the O´Hare Airport and spending more time in Lufthansa offices, as well as an evening in the Hyatt hotel. She caught a flight out the next morning to home, making for over 40 hours in transit from Amman to Calgary!

Amman was a nice, fairly modern city and it actually reminded me of Mexico City a little bit with many rolling hills (or jebels) and houses up one side and down the other. But I think I've seen enough of the flight company's offices for a lifetime! Now that I'm on my own 😞 it's time for me to go to Syria!

oh boy
This part of the trip was very unfortunate. With your type of travelling, there are always adversities, but this one was a little over the top. I'm glad it's behind you.
