you can't suck up to the chancellor when we're protesting!

It is a beautiful sunny day here in Juneau, Alaska and I can't believe I haven't written in over two weeks. Has it really been that long? Well I guess it's safe to say that a lot has happened lately. Some major ups and downs, but nothing too life altering! This week has gone surprisingly well...a little better than last week. Right now it is sunny, gorgeous, and I have lots to write about.

First off, the title. What's up with it? Well, today was the UAS Protest against the 15% tuition increase next year. It is actually going to be a 22% increase over the next two years, but nevertheless, I joined the students out in the courtyard (mostly to skip class and be outside), carried a sign with Melissa in tow, and marched across campus to the Chancellor's office. Here's a shocker -- he wasn't in! Go figure...And as we were walking along, Melissa pointed out that since he technically is her boss, she should yell she loves him as we come marching through. My response -- well, I think you kind of can tell from the title of this blog. Anyways, so he wasn't there and we kept marching with random students snapping pics on their cell phones and a guy from the empire trying to catch the action shots. And as we all walked and chanted, we realized that we were too happy and it was the sun causing it. It must've looked pretty funny to see a bunch of "upset" students laughing, giggling, and enjoying being outside during the protest. The reason == the sun! It has been amazingly sunny and beautiful the last few days (intermittently with a bunch of rain thrown in), Want an example of how gorgeous it is, I included some pics that I've snapped of Juneau on sunny days!

Anyways, so this week has been going okay. It has been so busy though with assignments that sleep has definitely not been important. What makes it even worse is that when I do decide to quit for the night, it's a little hard to get to sleep after staring at a computer screen for so long. There was a HUGE research paper and this article I had to read and write about and combining that with my test at the end of last week, the huge paper and three sheets of evaluations for communication, and all of the reading -- it was a lot! But I survived and have a short break with the homework assignments before a bunch of more stuff is due.

Also have some good news to report. Last week, I got a job with Glacier Gardens. I gotta go by today and fill out some paperwork, but we'll see. It may not be the best job but I'm going to get paid to drive around a cart, giving tours of the local flora and fauna at the gardens. Should be interesting!! Also, as of today, I am officially a student at MSU. YAY!! And I have been talking to a few people about places to rent this fall and have this one house that I'm actually really excited about. It's with a fellow science geek which may pose some problems or may be really cool. And on Monday, I got awarded a TRiO scholarship which is going to help pay for the plane ticket to my sister's wedding that I've been stressing about so much. Mom finally did her taxes which means some more money coming in too which will be nice. I've been starting to get a little worried about how I'm going to pay for everything. My bank account is okay for right now, but with upcoming summer housing costs, a plane ticket for June, a ferry ticket in August, and the costs to move to Michigan, I was starting to get a little worried. Things are going okay though for the moment!

And today is gorgeous. It's hard to be sad when it is so sunny outside and I can see the white-peaked mountains and blue sky from this conference room at the lab. But now I better get to distributing and diluting some DNA to prepare to ship off to a guy in California. Only 24 days to graduation!!!!!!!
