I've just come to the end of my first ever wwoofing experience and it was great! I got really lucky and a family in Dunedin had a space for me and they actually liked me and I ended up staying for two and a half weeks and going on Easter Holiday with them! Result!
They were great, they live just outside Dunedin and had two young kids - Pepa 5 and Solomon 3 who were great, heaps of fun and cute as! It was interesting being around young kids all the time, definate eye opener! But still really enjoyed it and they are good for making you laugh and giving you hugs! Pru is an awesome cook and I had a brilliant little room in a sleepout in the garden with TV and electric blanket (well used!).
I didn't really have to work too hard at all. The first week was mostly helping move out the old shop and set up the new shop which was cool. I babysat a couple of nights when Rob and Pru were getting on with stuff at the shop too. All I was doing thought was sitting in the house instead of my
sleepout while the kids were fast asleep! Not too difficult at all. The second week I did a bit of work in the garden and made some pesto out off all the basil I picked (did you know, you get hardly ANY pesto for your basil!) and also did some painting in the house. I quite like painting I've decided. I'm quite good at not getting too much on myself, maybe I should look into it - kidding!
They very kindly took me on their Easter holiday too. We went to this cute little school camp building in a really nice village, right by the sea. Rob and Pru's friends, Sarah and Robin, work for the school and get to hire out the place vv cheap, but they didn't even charge me so it was super awesome! We went on some really nice walks and trips to some of the cool places round about, including an old settlement and an lunatic asylum... Fun! :-) Sarah and Robin's girls are ages with Pepa and Solomon so it was small child overload but it did mean we got to go Easter egg hunting on Easter Sunday! We had a really good
Beach at Easter
Lot like home don't you think? time there, I might have got the nickname Mary Poppins too, but we'll not talk about that! Lol!
I stayed with Rob and Pru in Dunedin for a few more days, did a few odd jobs and got to go into town again to explore. They were great like that, I really got a lot of time to see a lot of Dunedin. It is a lot like Edinburgh but it's not on the same street plan as Edinburgh which a lot of people think, it's nothing like it actually!
I was pretty sad to leave in the end and Rob and Pru said they'd really enjoyed having me and that the kids would really miss me which was really nice to hear. I miss them! I'm back in Christchurch now with Kat from Russell and we are meeting up with Ella and Dave, and Bex and Jay from Russell tonight so that's going to be pretty epic. Very excited!
I'm starting my bus pass of the south island on Sunday and then meeting Scotti P from home and his mate Rob back in Christchurch on the 18th or 19th and we are campervanning it round the
south island till me and Scotti P go off to Hawaii for a week mid May! OH YES!
I have a good idea of my plans for the rest of the year now. I think, when I get back from Hawaii I'm going to tour the north island with my bus pass and then get a job for june, july and august (because I'll be broke by then I recon and I will need money for the rest of my trip). Them I'm going to go to Fiji for 2 weeks then Australia for 8 weeks and then do Thailand, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia for 6 weeks and hopefully be home around 15th of December!
SEE YOU THEN!!!!
Love Char xx
