Unfortunately, still no pictures. I am sorry = Hopefully soon. Steph and I have spent the last day in Udaipur still in the province of Rajasthan in India. We came over via a long 8 hour bus ride from Pushkar. The tourist bus we were on, did not really end up being much of a tourist bus. It was more like a luxury local bus. Overall, it was fine until one hour from Udaipur when they started picking up everyone and his brother. There were no seats left on the bus so everyone was standing. Poor Stephanie had the aisle seat. She had the pleasure of smelly armpits in her face! Apart from that, we had to endure only glaring stares from the local men. We had met two girls from Boston on the bus, one of which spoke some Hindi. She translated for us... apparently they were trying to determine which of us was richer and who would get the richer one! I'm afraid they would have been quite disspointed! Anyway, we arrived safe and sound in Udaipur and I am really enjoying this city. We are staying in a beautiful guesthouse (one of the cleanest yet) and, it has soft pillows! I have not had a soft pillow since I left Ottawa. For once, my ears do not ache in the morning! The guesthouse, has one of the highest rooftop restaurants which has a phenomenal view of the city, the lake, temples and mountains. It is absolutely breathtaking and relaxing at the same time. The great thing too, you don't hear the honking of horns in your ear and you don't smell the dung from the cows. It really is a little retreat from all that is India! Anyway, we are both fealing much better, but still not 100%. I imagine it will take awhile. Unfortunately, the thought of eating Indian food does not sit well so we have been sticking to Western food. Well, I'm lying, it is more like toast, oatmeal, banana's, crackers and Lay's Chips! We did not get up to much site seeing in the City today but we did manage to go through the City Palace (the biggest in India, one of the temples, Lake City Palace and Monsoon Palace. The City Palace was nothing special from the outside, but the rooms inside were amazing. The walls were nothing but mirors and painted glass in some cases, or intricate paintings from floor to ceiling in others. The view from the palace was amazing as well. My favorite site however was the Monsoon palace. Again, the building is nothing to report but the view was spectacular. You could see the entire City and its lakes on one side and the mountains and valleys on the other. What made my day was watching one of the most amazing sunsets I have ever seen there. On our way to the palace, we were not actually sure if we were going to make it up the mountain upon which the palace was built. The rickshaw was just coughing up a smoke storm and crawling at a snails pace. We made it though, just in the nick of time and I am so glad that we did! In the morning we will be leaving for a long bus ride to Amdebad then Aurangabad. This will be our base for exploring the Ellora caves before heading to Mumbai for a couple of days. I am looking forward to the beach in Goa though. After Mumbai, it is all about relaxing on the beach and getting prepared for my return home. YIKES!
