My walk to school
Makes you want to move here doesn't it. I tried to ignore it, paint it as better than the reality, but the weather here sucks balls. I had hoped to return to Seoul with winter over, the birds chirping the arrival of some fine spring weather. But instead I got something that’s decidedly un-American, snow in late March. Yes I realize that there are lots of parts of America where it snows well into March and beyond, I was using un-American not in the sense that something does or does not relate to America but rather in the George Bush, un-American = bad, sense of the word. I feel like I didn’t sign up for March snow. I just read my contract, and there’s no mention of this travesty (although to be fair, the contract is written in Korean and I have no idea what it says… sign where?). I also finally experienced the horrible air pollution of Yellow Dust.* And no you racist bastards, it’s not called Yellow Dust b/c it comes from China, it’s because it’s yellowish. It’s a lovely dust that blows in from China to cover Korea and my lung flesh with sulfur, soot, ash, carbon monoxide, heavy metals (such as mercury, cadmium, chromium, arsenic,
lead, zinc, copper) as well as viruses, bacteria, fungi, pesticides, antibiotics, asbestos, herbicides, plastic ingredients, combustion products and hormone mimicking phthalates. So that’s pretty awesome. The best part about travel is that you have very little idea about what the following day holds. This is also the worst part of regular life. That being said, I did pick a profession where each day brings something different. I was thinking about the last meal I’d eat before my execution, were such a thing to come to pass. We all know that one empties one’s bowels upon dying, which makes me wonder if they give people time to process all that food or just clean up the chair/table where they execute them. Chatting offends my sense of efficiency. Here’s what I don’t understand about all the politically correct business about not saying “that’s gay” if something is lame or “that’s retarded” if something is stupid. How are we supposed to feel good if we don’t make others feel bad? Happiness is a zero sum game people, the happier they are, the less that’s left for us. It’s ours, we have to go out there and take it. Get mad you sons of
Begger
They stay perfectly still on the subway, so much so that you can time delay the picture and they don't blur like everyone else. You don't see many of them. bitches, get mad.** If I was a bully I think I’d bully people who use soft bristle toothbrushes because I think they’re for pussies. Something I haven’t really touched on, although it’s a very big part of Korean culture is how much they booze here. A Korean friend told me it is pretty common to ask if someone is a heavy drinker during a job interview and view it as a negative if they are not. You commonly see people passed out on the sidewalk, on the metro floor, in the bushes, etc. These people are usually businessmen, often in their suits. Someone decided to create a website dedicated to the strange places these people pass out and as I find it pretty amusing I should share.
Blackout Korea. Proof that I’m not a princess - I frequently sleep quite soundly on top of items much larger than a pea, such as my cell phone, glasses, laptop, etc. Things that are making my life pretty awesome these days: The corner shop started selling Johnsonville Cheese Hotdogs, the elevator already being on the floor I’m on when I push the button, Alan Moore. I don't think I can overstate how awesome Corey
Haim was in his youth. Due to the efficiency of space in my bathroom I stand in the same place to pee as I do to shower. There’s a kid in one of my classes who is mentally handicapped. He is also really big, and when he sees me in the hallway he screams and charges me. It’s terrifying. He veers left at the last minute and continues running down the hall but I now live a life of fear. Did anyone know that Bastian from the Neverending story killed himself? We need to take better care of our child actors people, they are America’s most valuable resource, role models and the shining stars which light our paths. My five people I’d invite to a dinner party: John Denver, Kurt Vonnegut, ML K, Chris Farley and Anthony because I'd like to see him again. Nearly all the pictures here were pirated from Jorn. To see more of his stuff,
Jorn's Site Movie: Rewatched Dream a Little Dream, it’s still amazing. I liked The Dude in Crazy Heart.
TV: Watching Battlestar Galactica on Al’s recommendation and you know what? Sci Fi is awesome.
Music: Kid Cudi’s “Pursuit of happiness”
Riding Bitch
In a sidecar. is a great listen, as the Fight Like Apes’ album.
Book: Three Cups of Tea is excellent.
Master of karate and friendship for everyone,
~Dayman
Reading made Don Quixote a gentleman. Believing what he read made him mad. ~George Bernard Shaw
Doesn't anything socialistic make you want to throw up? Like great public schools, or health insurance for all? ~ Kurt
Potter: You don't think this is the proverbial 'hell freezing over' do you, Father?
Mulcahy: Oh, no, no. I'm sure I'd have been informed if anything that big were on the agenda. ~ M.A.S.H.
