I arrived back in Accra today after a wonderful week in Egypt with Rob. As we already posted, our first 4 days were spent in Sharm El Sheikh on the beach, after which we flew to Cairo. The majority of our time at the resort was spent lounging and snorkelling - very relaxing. Cairo was the exact opposite in every way. It is busy, fast-paced, and noisy 24 hours a day. We stayed in a hotel downtown which overlooked the Nile, and was walking distance from many of the sights such as the Egyptian Museum. On our first day we took a trip to the Islamic section to go the the Khan el-Khalili market, one of the oldest markets in the world. They carry just about anything you can imagine: trinkets, clothing, carpets, cotton, jewellery, spices, etc. It is so overrun with feral cats that we started joking you get a free one with every purchase. I also had to keep an eye on Rob, as I caught him bargaining me for camels (he was up to 65 and quite annoyed I’d interrupted). For dinner we tried a little hole-in-the-wall pub full of ex-pats with good Egyptian food and cheap local beer. On Friday we did the “tourist” things, namely, we went to the pyramids. I’d pictured them being off in the desert, but actually they are right on the edge of Cairo. I was also able to fulfill my lifelong dream of riding a camel (which it turns out I am not allergic to!) Its name was Oscar, and we did a little tour around the pyramids and over to the sphinx. Rob will add his pictures once his HLTA is finished. We also checked out a hotel bar called “The Windsor”, which is the same name as our old favourite dingy pub in Edmonton (now closed for health violations). It used to be the officers mess for British soldiers stationed in Cairo, so naturally Rob felt right at home. For dinner we tried the Lebanese restaurant in our hotel, and ended up having one of the biggest (and best) meals of our lives. Saturday was spent as a quiet day together, after which Rob had to take me to the airport. The trip home was uneventful, with the exception of being stuck in a holding pattern above Dubai/Bahrain due to sandstorms. Rob is in Cairo for a couple more days, and will be back at work later in the week. We’re both excited to be in the home stretch - roughly a month left for both of us before we’re home. We can’t wait!

P.S. I have posted some additional pictures to old posts and released all comments so they can be seen be everyone. I hope certain people are satisfied with this *ahem* Dad…
