To All Our Family and Friends

Quentin and I finally left 102 Canning Hwy, South Perth, Western Australia on the 10th of February, 2010! We left with a plethora of mixed emotions; excitement, sadness, happiness, elation, exhilaration, grief etc etc. Its probably one of the hardest things we have done, leaving our families especially our daughters as we are very close to them. On the other side, what a fantastic country we reside in as we are just starting to find out.

Hope you enjoy our blog and we will make sure all of our pics are interesting and not too boring.

The Ettamogah Pub was the inspiration of Maynard's cartoons and a flash of genius by Lindsay Cooper that saw the creation of Australia's most famous pub. Does anybody remember the Ettamogah Cartoon? There are others in Sydney and the Sunshine Coast in QLD.

This is where Ned Kelly was trialled for murder. They could not get a proper jury of 12 so they sent him off to Melbourne to be sentenced.

Beechworth Jail

Ned Kelly spent quite a few weeks here waiting for the magistrate to arrive, this could take a few months. There were normally 20-30 men in the jail cell which was approx. 3x4 mtrs. The men were on the left and the women on the right hand side. Neds Mum and sister Kate (just a baby)were locked up for a few weeks. The mortar between the granite building blocks was extremely thin, this was to stop prisoners from digging out the mortar ,pulling the large blocks out and escaping.

Jacqui this pic is for you. We stayed at the Glenrowan Tourist Park and the owner stated this was a very rare bird and is a threatened species. There is a family of 6 here and there have been visitors from the Melbourne University to study and take pictures.
