GoatsGoatsGoats

View from our room. A few friendly neighbourhood goats ate their way through the front yard. They belong to someone according to the locals.
Arrived Montego Bay Saturday 6th at around 5pm. We were met at the airport by Steve, who is the owner of our guest house (Bethel Court Guest House). After being hit by the heat and a mass of people all wanting our bags and money we were bundled in to Patrick's car, our guide for the rest of the week.

It was a little disconcerting having to get through three padlocks and a door lock to get to our room, but since our first night it's obvious that it's the norm around Jamaica. Everyone has guards and metal grates over their windows and doors. I think there are problems on the island, but we've had positive experiences everywhere we've gone.

Yesterday we spent diving near Runaway Bay. We completed our certification to use sea scooters (diver propulsion vehicles). It was excellent, amazing acutally. Remember how it was when you walked everywhere and then you learned to drive....this is even better, more like a motorbike flying underwater. Due to a technical glitch, we only have videos, not photos, but we'll try to capture some stills and publish them soon.

On our way to Negril. Brilliant day in the sun on the most fantastic beach.
a minute that passes where you don't hear a car stereo playing either reggae or hip hop duff duff duffing down the road. None of our windows have glass, they're wooden slats with mesh so you hear everything, including the gospel church across the road with it's four hour services.

Everywhere we go the smells are amazing. A mixture of bbq'ing fish or chicken or with the local 'patties'. We've tried ackie and salt fish, goat curry, jerk chicken and coconut jelly.

Today we went to Negril - the best beach in Jamaica and we have to say, it quite possibly lives up to it's name. The water was warm and the sand soft underfoot, the sun shone and all was good with the world.

We followed it up with lunch in a nice restaurant, then a trip down the coast...via a lovely local bar....to Rick's Cafe. Home to some lovely cliffs and deep water perfect for cliff jumping. 30ft is quite enough for most people, but the locals love to put on a show, diving and backflipping from trees above the cliff tops, maybe 50ft above the water.

We're now sitting with a rum punch

After a spicy lunch (Steve had goat curry!) we went across the road to a bar that was renowned for cliff jumping. Steve did a 30' jump and I followed with a smaller one.
