Edit Blog Post

Hello! We're on lunch break from orientation over at UCC, so I decided to set up this blog rather than put together the promised email list.

Due to an unfortunate memory lapse, I have totally forgotten my camera cord at home in Ohio, so I won't be able to post photos until it is shipped here (I was going to buy one, but it was 45 Euro!).

After two separate grocery shopping trips, there is finally enough food in our apartment that our kitchen feels like a REAL kitchen. I picked up some delicious smoked salmon, rice cakes, chocolate digestives, and a bunch of other stuff. Tesco is a fabulous grocery store... like Kroger, but with better snack food.

I still haven't QUITE wrapped my mind around the fact that I am here for five months, so I think I'm going to make a big calendar and cross the days off as they pass. Hopefully this will orient me to the length of my stay.

Still plugging away on my stories for the Dell awards, in hopes of a free trip to Florida come March (I just LOVE those transatlantic flights, don't you? ). I'm going to send them in later today, I think.

Oh, the important part! I am still trying to work out what classes to take; they are really pushing the visiting student modules, and a few of them look good: Ancient and Medieval Irish Mythology (with other visiting students AND Irish UCC students), as well as Spoken Irish. Add to this Women's Philosophy, Victorian Literature, and Celtic Folklore. I need one more class, and it will probably be an English class. I only had four approved by the head of the English dept. at Wright State, so I'm trying to find courses that WSU can approve after the fact as courses that will count towards graduation back home.

For the first week, we aren't officially registered, and just go around auditing classes to see if we like them. For a person who just likes to be pointed in the right direction and head down it, this is slightly stressful. I sort of feel like I'm going to be wandering around campus going "what?"

Anyway. That's it for now. When I have more and better things to say about Cork and life and school, I'll be back.
