The Great White WhaleThe Great White WhaleThe Great White Whale

As promised here is one of the photos of Terry diving. He was really tickled to get the CD with photos as part of the dive package. The people he went diving with were really fun. They had a jam night at their place one night and we spent some time with them and a bunch of their freinds playing music and drinking beers. It was very nice and I had some great vegie curry to eat there too, what a treat! Vegies are not served much in Nicaragua so every time I have found some I have been scarfing them down. While on the Island we ate lots of fresh fish, shrimp and lobsters. I don´t usually like shrimp but when it is fresh from the sea it is a totally different and very delectable experience. Along with the coconut sauce they serve on the island, we have been eating very good.

Thanks to all of you on the Great Corn Island who made us feel comfortable and at home. Our stay at the Hotel Best View was most pleasant. This was our second time stayiing at this hotel, only this time I arrived quite ill with measles. Thank goodness for Pearl who took good care of me when I was sick, and then when I was well took me dancing at Nicos; what fun we had! Thank you Myron Downs, owner of the Hotel Best View and the Internet Cafe, for your most generous hospitality. We loved Corn Island and look forward to returning in the future.

Hello All,

Well we are made it back to the mainland of Nicaragua, the big city of Managua actually. We treated ourselves tonight and are staying at the Best Western Hotel across from the airport. Nice digs compared to the budget hotels and hospedajes we have been staying at. Tomorrow and Tuesday we will take the bus to the craft markets in Masaya and Catarina to do some shopping for souvenirs then Wednesday morning we fly home. I must say, as much fun as it has been, I am ready to get

Another dive photo of a lobster in a coral bed. Terry said the coral reefs were really spectacular. I believe he will be returning to the Island to do some more diving. The diving off of the Little Island is supposed to be even better. Like I said, he thought these reefs were more beautiful than diving in Cozumel and Playa del Carmen. And the islands in Nicaragua are not so built up and commercialized like they are in the Yucatan, not yet anyway.
home. Our backpacks have really gotten heavy, must be all the souvenirs we have picked up on the way. I keep leaving clothes behind to try and lighten the load but the seashells, especially the large conch shells is kind of like hauling rocks, and the magazines have added weight as well. We were both surprised when they weighed our packs at the airport and saw how much weight we are hauling. Our packs are both 80 pounds and then we are hauling our daypacks too. I´n sure when I left my pack only weighed about 50 pounds. We are going to store our packs at the hotel and travel light tomorrow while we go shopping. More than likely we will buy another duffel bag and add even more weight to our load. I want to pick up some of the beautiful pottery and buy some paintings, and who knows what else we will find. We must be crazy!

Corn Island was really a nice time. We spent several days just lounging on the beach and swimming in the ocean. The water was really nice and so clear. We never did make it to the Little Corn Island, not

Another beautiful sunset on the water.
sure why, guess we were enjoying the big Island too much. Last night we went dancing, and I really had a blast. Terry didn´t have as much fun, he complained about the music being too loud. They play reggae music and good old country music. What fun it was! We took a gal that worked at our hotel along with us, she had a great time too.

Well thank you all for your comments and taking the time to read our travel logs. We have really enjoyed Nicaragua and will most likely return. There is still much to see and the people we have had the opportunity to meet have been very warm and welcoming. Not to mention, the weather here sure beats hanging out in the cold snowy winters of Colorado. However, now we are looking forward to the beautiful Springtime in the Rockies, as you all know that cannot be beat. See you all in a few days!

With love from Terry and Kathy.

See you soon
Hi kathy and Terry, Can't wait to see you two in person. If your back in Paonia on Saint Paddy's Day come to Pizza My Heart for beer and pizza. Not as good as fresh shrimp and lobster, but not too bad for the middle of the Colorado Rockies. Howard will be playing Friday as well. Love, Betty

A Lady from Somoto
It's nice to see someone who appreciates my homeland as much as I do. I'm glad you had a nice time there. I know I do when I visit. I hope you return, ready to enjoy Nicaragua all over again. Sincerely, Delia.

Corn Island visit?
Hola Terry and Kathy Thanks for the travel blog that entises us to go to the Corn Islands for a visit. We live in Redwood City, CA and have mountain property in Panama that we travel back and forth to see now and then. The Carib side sounds nice and a different country would be interesting. Where there other hotels you would recommend on the Corns? Gracias

Enjoyed your information
Your comments really encourage me. My daughter and I are going to Somoto on a mission trip July 27. It looks beautiful! We'll be staying in the same hotel you did. Is there any malaria down there? Were both mosquito magnets.
