So we crossed the river over the Phu Quoc Island by the ferry on Saturday, took about 2 and half hours, luckily they put some films on, expecting some random vietnamese film we were shocked when they put on Rambo!! Although it was dubbed, we knew the story.
Once arriving at the port we had to get transport to the beach resort area called Long Beach that we wanted to stay on. There are a few other beaches around the island but they are prety desserted, some you cant even visit on certain times and days as they are controlled by military. Anyway, off the boat they were so many vietnamese guys asking if you want a motorbike to the beach about 11km away. Ste and I didn't fancy going on a bike this long with our bags etc but by the time we took deciding, all the taxi's and minibusses had left so we bargained down to a pound each and got on the bikes with our drivers. Actually a really nice ride, bit bumpy at time and at one point they took us down this shortcut dirt track which was a bit muddy and we had to get
off walk a bit then get back on and when Ste got back on he burned his leg a little on the exhaust, didnt feel that bad at the time but once we arrived and got in our room it had turned pretty nasty. We wanted to stay at this one place we had read about on someones blog where it had bungalows just up some steps from the beach, she offered us $15 we said no then she went down to $12 straightaway, so we said yes! Was a really nice little place but since the roof is wooden and not connected to the walls you get so many bugs, cockroaches, ants, flys, mosquitoes, luckily we had a mosquitoe net over our bed.
Straight away we went down to inspect the beach and get some food. We absolutely stunned at how gorgeous the beach was. It was really long but very thin, only about 10m wide. Our resort had a little restaurant on the front, food was ok priced, 1-2 pound for breakfast, lunch and dinner. After filling our tummys up we headed straight for some chairs and into the sea!! Finally I was in the sea!! Ahh
it was amazing, so warm and nice and clear 😊 The only problem was both of us could feel tiny little nibbling bites every now and then, we couldnt see anything in the sea or on our skin and they didnt really hurt just annoying. After watching a gorgeous sunset and realising we were slightly burnt we headed back to our little home showered and headed back to the beach for some dinner. We walked along for a while and it was all very similar, each resort had a restaurant and bar on the front, right next to the sea, gorgeous. We ate at the restaurant next door and sat out for a few hours relaxing.
Sunday was very similar. Head up to the main street first of all to find an atm and on the way we noticed a bar showing the liverpool-arsenal game that night so we planned on going there after dinner, it was shown at 11pm here, so a late night! The day was spent on the beach again relaxing getting too hot jumping in the sea relaxing some more and reading. Ste finally finished his 700page book he had been reading for the past

Our resorts restaurant and bar month!! Had a nice dinner again and then went to the bar to watch liverpool lose 😞 Was good though as we bumped into a guy we had met back in Hoi An and the owner of the bar was English so had a very english evening. On our walk back to our bungalow a about 1am we noticed loads of flashes in the sky like lightning but it wasnt raning and there wasnt any thunder. We decided to go sit on the beach and see what we could see. It was mental, there was a huge lightning storm going on in the sky but no rain or thunder! I was petrified as I dont like thunder/lightning, Ste loved it though! Sat on a chair just staring into the sky watching the flashes. As they started to get nearer I persuaded him to go back, about 5minutes later the thunder came (the loudest thunder I have ever heard, actually felt the floor shake) and the rain too, the heaviest rain just non stop allllllllllllllll night!!!
Monday once again we head to the beach, was weird as the sea after the storm had become really dirty. They were some bits of
rubbish on the coast and the sea was no longer nice and clear. We read some more sunbathed, I swam a little but Ste didnt want to go in because of his burn, read some more, went back to the room had a nice cold shower (no hot water in the bungalows) and headed out for our last dinner on the island..bbq! Was amazing, had bbq kebabs, potatoes and corn on the cob, was very yummy, just for 2 pound. Planned on having an early night which went out the window as going back to our room, we found loads of bugs in our bed! Tiny little black dots which we though was just dirt but then they crawled and one got up and flew. Thought they may have been fleas but they weren't jumping, have no idea what they were, but we didnt have much choice but to sleep in the bed (floor was concrete and had all other kinds of bugs) we picked off what we could see and then shook the sheet and we think we cleared them all but was a restless night as we were so paranoid. Was expecting to wake up with loads of
strange bites but luckily none other than our mozzie bites.
Tuesday we got a moto taxi up to the port to take us to Ha Tien where there is a knew border crossing into Cambodia. Crossing was fine, empty desserted and strange. Fine though, we had read loads about imigration officers asking for extra dollars, we were execting to have to pay extra but nope, just $20 tourist visa. The moto taxis would leave us though and wanted to drive us to our town we were heading to in Cambodia called Kampot which was about 40km away. We really didnt fancy staying on a bike that long and we had heard across the border you can get a bus to Kampot....well there were no busses so we didnt have much choice until we saw two other tourits who were going the opposite way to us and had just come from Kampot by minibus and the minibus was heading back there. Thankfully, we didnt have to get on a moto taxi for 40 km, just a nice hot sweaty bus instead, still safer and cheaper.
Lots of love, hope all the xmas plans are going ok 😊 We have
finally booked our xmas accommodation 😊

Wow!
Wow, that is some sunset - makes a bit of a difference to the current freezing temperatures and snow we have here. You seem to be getting a nice tan too, which is defiantely not fair!! Hope your keeping well. xxx
