At the airport..
A classic moment, here on the airport, Will is annoyed over the slooooooow check-in line. Hi all..
This is one of the last blog entries from me here in India, as it is soon time for us to move further south and down under: Sydney!!
That is is about time, winter has arrived in Dehli and it is absolutely freezing (this may sound strange coming from a norwegian viking, however, I am a climate migrant).
Our apartment is not build for temperatures below 20 C and it get down to 8 C at night now, so the apartment never really heats up again during day and its get colder and colder... (Do I make my self clear?? It is freeeeeeezing!!). It may of course be a shock for us to come over to Europa for christmas, but that is only for one week and buildings are usually equipped with heating.
Will and I therefore decided to escape the cold and head for southern India on an extended weekendtrip (Will scheduled meetings in Kerala on the monday, so we could stay an extra day).
Flying Air India is not so pleasant as they always have stops on the way, in addition to always be delayed.. But after 4 fab hours inside a plane (same distance as from
Taj Green resort!!
The gorgeous garden! And gorgeous Will:) Norway to Spain!!) we arrived in Kerala and the beach village Kovalam. We stayed at the Taj Green Resort, and as most of the Taj hotels it was absolutely gorgeous with the rooms widespread in a huge green tropical garden. and they had a superb infinity pool with view of the Arabian sea.
But we would soon discover the big minus of this resort: their private beach was apparently washed away in the monsun and they had "forgotten" to mention that on their website…The private beach was one of the main reasons for choosing this resort, since privacy is an unknown phenomenon most places around here in India.
Furthermore, Kerala is way behind Goa when it comes to beach-culture (= they really don't have any) so being at the beach without burka will give some unwanted attention....
Anyways, we woke up on saturday, still thinking that there would be a quiet private beach we could go to. Will called the reception and asked for beach towels and after explaining what a towel actually is and what you can use it for (e.g. dry your body after bathing), they promised to bring two towels right away. They also really wanted us
to go down to the beach in the Taj golf car, however we wanted to walk and after convincing the receptionist about that, we waited for our towels. Then the golf car arrives...but without any towels...something obviously went wrong during the conversation between Will and the reception. We therefore called back and asked for towels and reassured that golf car was not needed. After a while we get to normal towers (like the ones that we already had in our room..). This process had now taken 30 minutes and we really wanted to go to the beach. We decided to let it go and head for the beach. Then the golf car arrives again and this time with real beach towels. And we once again reassure that we want to walk on our feet the whole way (approx 300 m) to the beach.
This is a classic India happening (we have many similar experiences) which are rather funny most of the times, however, not everyday..
But, the point here is that not one time did anyone mention that the actual beach we were planning to go to did no longer exist!!!!??? Amazing!!!
Well, we arrive at the "beach", but here
is only rocks.. and after asking a couple of people we learn that there is no such thing as a private beach.
A bit disappointed and slightly confused we therefore head towards another beach further away. Not a private beach.. at all. To make mattes worse, a mosque is located right next to it. And that particular weekend was during the id celebration, so loads of people had the weekend off... We survived for a couple of hours until staring crowd became to much of a hassle.
But- the Taj Infinity pool was fantastic and we had a great afternoon there, completely free of hassle😊 Just perfect!
We met some really nice people when having dinner at the lighthouse beach in Kovalam, and they knew about a quiet and clean beach close by.
The following day we spent a great day at that beach, with boogieboard and water temperature close to 37 C!!! After the beach we had beers with our new friends and watched the sunset from a rooftop restaurant. Fantastic!
Will and I spent the evening at the Taj Resort, walking around in the tropical garden and watched the stars😊
Will left early for meetings on monday morning,
and I headed to the airport to catch my flight to Goa😊
