Today is Thanksgiving, though you wouldn't know it in China. In honor of this important holiday, I thought I'd make a short list of the things I'm thankful for.

1. I'm thankful for my health, even this week.

2. I'm thankful I have wonderful friends and family, both here and abroad.

3. I'm thankful I am able to write this and then read it with understanding.

4. I'm thankful my travels have taught me to be grateful for many things: food, clothing, a clean place to sleep, toilets that exist and don't smell.

5. I'm thankful I've also learned to appreciate more that I have a job, one that I love. Many people in this world don't.

6. I'm thankful I've been able to see how people with less than me are happier than most people I know.

7. I'm thankful I've learned to trust people in ways I never thought possible. Sometimes this is hard, especially when I'm in a foreign country, they don't sound like me, and they're telling me something I don't like. They're usually right, not just trying to make my life difficult or take advantage of my western naivety.

8. I'm thankful I've discovered life off the beaten path makes me happier.

9. I'm thankful I can say all of this without fear of being silenced.

10. I'm thankful for humanity.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Thanksgiving
Kris, What wonderful thoughts you just expressed. I agree with everything you just elaborated. And, as we say in the Navy, Bravo Zulu (Well Done!)
