I've already been on the Spirit for over a week now. And I'm still rather delighted to be here.
Only a couple days onto the ship, I got sick. The stupid "sign on sickness" that seems to find you when you join a ship. But I'd managed to stay healthy through both the Conquest and the Ecstasy, so I guess it was time it caught me. I'm already back to normal though, so at least it didn't last too long.
It was strange signing on halfway through a cruise. The teens were generally confused by me being there and didn't really seem to think of me as a director. But oh well, that came to an end. This cruise we're in now is BUSY. It's the Thanksgiving cruise so we've got teens in the hundreds onboard. Last night I counted that we had 92 signed up and participating which isn't bad. They're nice and generally well-behaved but they're one of those wandering groups that we get sometimes where they just wander in and out of the club all the time, rarely actually staying long. Oh well, all we can do is keep offering what we offer right? It's nice
having two directors right now though, especially during the first two evenings. Between Clair and I, we can easily have the door covered and watch the room and speak to parents but continue DJing.
Our home port is San Diego and we were there a few days back. I went out with Clair and JoJo (who I'd worked with on the Fantasy too) to use internet and I had to pick up tons of "life" things - toiletries and stuff that I didn't want to transfer on the plane with me. Got new shoes, cause my other dress shoes were quite literally falling apart! That same day I moved into my permanent cabin and got my new roommate - Reggie, who was my roommate for awhile this last spring on the Destiny! I keep running into all sorts of familiar faces around the ship. I know far more people here than I thought I was going to. Overall, the crew here seem friendly and welcoming. I'm happy to be staying.
Two days ago we were in Acapulco. Clair took me to a restaurant near the ship that has wifi. It's a health food restaurant and oh my goodness
it's so great! I'll be very happy to spend money there every week if it means eating that food! It's so difficult for me with my allergies to eat on the ship and eating out is usually a matter of scanning a menu for what I'm not allergic to. But this place had so many options for me. After lunch and internet, Clair and I walked along the main strip and exlored some shops and sat in a cafe for awhile. Then we had our big event for the day - we went to see New Moon! I love it. I saw Twilight in South Africa and now New Moon in Mexico! We headed back to the ship after the movie and opened the club for the evening. We have a nice long day in Acapulco - noon until 1am. It's so nice sleeping in and then having a full day outside. I'm already a fan!
Yesterday we were in Zihautanejo/Ixtapa (two cities in one port). I'd originally had plans to go to a beach, but then sleep became a necessity. So after a long sleep and then lunch up on the guest buffet, I just joined some of
the girls up on the top deck. Laid in the HOT sunshine and finished my book. Took a bunch of photos from the ship. In both Acapulco and Ixtapa we dock in a bay and I love it. It makes for such pretty views from the ship.
And today we're in Manzanillo and I'm once again taking advantage of internet (needed to get this blog caught up!) and mango juice.
Three more nights and two more sea days with our busy busy club. But in there we'll get to have Thanksgiving dinner - which is never as good as it is at home, but for a dinner in the mess it is excellent. Then it'll quiet back down again and I'll start diving into more explorations of the ports.
Again, I love that I'm here to stay. It's nice feeling like I've got plenty of time on a ship for a change . . .
And happy birthday to mom!

Restaurant sounds awesome. I saw Twilight in Canada but will be seeing New Moon in Honduras when it comes here Dec. 4th. Perhaps we can go see Eclipse together in some other foreign country ;)
