Don't Mind At All!Don't Mind At All!Don't Mind At All!

From Heathrow to London, it's easy on the Tube...
A gap in our connection from London to Istanbul was just the right amount of time to get on the “Tube” and ride into downtown London to check out a couple sights. The speed-sightseeing walk was welcomed after our 10-hour flight from San Francisco, and as the afternoon turned to evening we were able to lay our eyes on a couple of London’s centrepieces. We were able to see Big Ben and the Parliament Buildings (that‘s one big clock), Westminster Abby (beautiful old church with Rememberence Day Memorials everywhere), Buckingham Palace (with it‘s Beefeaters on syncronized guard), St. James’ Park (a nice park but there seemed to be an obvious lack of public toilets!!!), Trafalgar Square (beautiful fountains, four big lion statues and next to the Canadian Embassy), the London Eye (big, slow ferris-wheel) and walk cross the Thames (a river does run through it); all in the course of a couple hours. We even pulled into a pub for a couple pints of ale and a hefty portion of fish & chips with peas - needless to say the beer was better then the fish (which I’m convinced was dogfish - karma’s a bitch!) - but hey, that’s part of

the fun! Then with food in our tummies, fresh air in our lungs, a couple shots on the camera and a sense of minor accomplishment, we hopped back on the Underground back to Heathrow Airport. Once back at the airport we found a semi-quiet corner in the Arrivals Terminal and hunkered down for the night on a couple of not-so-comfortable seats with our sleeping bags and pillows out in an attempt to make the chairs a little more sleepable. Although they were few, the hours of sleep we got in between the floor cleaners coming and going were welcomed and although a little grungy (it’s been 36-hours since we left Victoria) we are ready for Istanbul, now only a 4-hour flight away.

Until Next Time…
