spullen omdat we graag (samen) koken.
Our Penthouse in Playa Samara
What makes a penthouse a penthouse ? A penthouse is the highest apartment in a building with a separate entrance right ? So, we have
a separate entrance, cement stairs with steel pipe railing entering our outside living room. Also our apartment is like 6 inches higher than the other apartments.
We have a nice kitchen/dining area, a bedroom and a bathroom, not very big but enough for us right now. When we looked at the place it was very empty and all the walls were white. Now, living in a tropical country just asks for some color here and there. So we painted the walls, orange-ish and yellow-ish as well as two little stools which we now use as bed side tables.
In the US we bought some Indian looking fabric, perfect to cover our bed. Willeke took out her sowing machine and made it look nice: put some black fabric around it so it would cover the whole bed.
It took us three trips from the Lake area to Playa Samara in order to get all our stuff here. And not much furniture either, just two plastic chairs and a cupboard which belonged to Willeke’s mum. Other than that just clothes and lots of kitchen ware since we both like to cook.
And cook we do ! Wow, we have a wonderful dinner
at lunch time every single day. We just do with what we have and come up with delicious meals. It is nice to have a warm meal at lunch time and just a little snack in the evening, since one goes to bed early around here. What time ? Oh it depends, but mostly between 8 and 9. Early right ? But we are awake here around 05.30 am already, monkeys wake us up a lot of times.
Speaking of monkeys…..we feed them bananas. And not just feed them, they come down from the tree next to our place and take the bananas from our hand. Sometimes you can feel their leathery hands on your hand, so sweet. We are careful tough to not touch them, just feed them bananas, which they normally would eat anyway. Just making it easier on them, and we enjoy it soooo much.
Also the squirrels come down and walk on the railing around our outside patio, so far we haven’t been able to feed them peanuts, but maybe we will someday.
The beach is like right there ! So much fun, in the afternoon we’d like to take our lightweight folding chairs and walk
to the beach. It’s just a 2 minutes walk before we sit under the palm trees in the shade. We bring our books and something to eat and drink, and just sit there and relax. In the weekends a lot of Tico’s (Costa Ricans) are on the beach, and we enjoy watching them having fun.
We are relaxing a lot, we walk on the beach to the small town and do some shopping or take our bikes. Shasta is having so much fun too. He enjoys running on the beach and he made some friends as well. There is this one black dog, which we call Rasta. His tail looks like dreadlocks and he and Shasta are having a great time, playing in the water or on the beach, also playing with any other dog they may encounter. Shasta is loosing a lot of hair too, and we toss it on the roof next to us. All the birds in the area will have a nice soft bed to sleep on from now on.
So we are doing very fine, getting more and more relaxed and finding our way together.
Until next time,
Love
Willeke and Hubert and a very
thin and trim Shasta
