Ahhh beautiful venice....The city of romance, rivulets, cananls and gondalas. When we arrived it was drizzling but the sky was clear and as expected the place was beautiful...We caught the boat from the bus station on the grand canal to the foot of our hotal.....The Hotel Rialto.... Yes folks thats right we lashed out for this once as we found out our termination payments had come through (thanks to a phone call from mama at 330am!) ....whoo hooo. Our Hotel was literally at the base of the rialto bridge. We quickly took the chance to get rid of our gear and head straight to the alleyways of venice. Jen Jen was on the hunt for food as it was getting on tea time, however we got lost amongst the amazing shops with out of this world venician masks and glassware. Eventually we managed to drive ourselves out of the shops and settled on a lovely little italain restaurant for tea that we found hidden in a back alley. The meals were beautiful and the 1L wines were going down a treat. Jen opted for some seafood and Andy went for his now new favourite dish Spaghetti Alio Olio with chilli.....Yum Yum....It was then off to our comfy beds with massive pillows to get a well deserved sleep in. hehe!

Day 2 started with a day time exploration of the city. The weather was beautiful and everything was fantastic until the tide came in. Within less than an hour the streets were flooded and our introduction to St Marco square was on boardwalks errected by the counsil as it was totally underwater. It was the most unreal thing we have ever seen. However, the locals were clued on and all had groin high gumboots and were just walking around in it. Jen wished she had a pair! Shops had to close and restaurants could no longer offer alfresco dinning. We decided we would head inland a little to higher ground and find a spot for lunch. We ate good food and drank great wine again.....got to love this place....no wonder we are getting so fat and running out of money hehe.. we then headed on a big walk around the canals, took scenic photos of about 392 of the 400 bridges that exist, drank some more lovely wine before heading back to the hotel while everything was closed for siesta for a nap of our own. When we awoke we headed back out onto the streets where we stopped for some tea right on the river front. We opted for the 3 course menu for only 14.50 and drank wine whilst looking over rialto bridge. It was truely a surreal experience... After that we headed for some drinks before calling it a night....We must say we did fall in love with this city.
