We arrived on Monday afternoon to Chicago, IL. We took the bus to South Bend, Indiana where we got picked up from our hosts from IICD Michigan and finally arrived at 23:00 local time.
On Tuesday morning we went to a college close by. Luckily we got a guide who could show us around the campus. Most impressed we were by the activity rooms and dorms, which are obviously new, well equiped and like the rest of the facilities at a high standard. One thing the college is very proud of is the close connection between students an teachers, what makes them to one of the most successful colleges in the nation.
On Wednesday morning we hold presentations for the DI's in the school. Later we went to Benton Habour in order to visit a resale shop which is runned by former homeless people as a project to help people with no homes to find jobs and shelter. We also visited a afterschool teen class program, which workes with at risk students and teaches techniques in blacksmithing and glasblowing. The products are exihibit in a local store and can be bought directly from the gallary(80% of the sale goes
to the artist). Marketing and art education are two basic focus points in that program.
....to be continued
PS: We enjoy also the nature around here very much, which is like a picture book autumn.
