Happy Birthday RichHappy Birthday RichHappy Birthday Rich

January 5th, 2009. We got Rich a great present, a birthday certificate!
We started the year with a few parties. The first, on January 5th, was in the Manhattan to celebrate the birthday of our friend, Rich DeLuca. Soon after, we joined Jackie's mother, Martha New, for her birthday on January 16th.
A big part of our lives are our grandchildren. Their ages are now 4 to 13. All have school and sport activities. So, over the year you will see many of these events as well as numerous birthday events. In January, the sport is indoor basketball. In the photos you’ll see Emmy in competition.

Dianne sent out a photo with a house in the background described as Mother’s birthplace. It did not match up with my memory. Mother went with Jackie and me once and showed us the house. Dianne’s photo just did not seem correct. So, I got busy and did some research. I went to the Gwinnett County Courthouse and found the correct location. I found some more interesting family information but do not have space here to discuss. Then I drove over to Buford to confirm if she indeed have the correct house in the photo. And she did! I made a few photos and was pleased

The Manhattan Crew know how to party.
to see that the house is still in good shape. I wish that I had been able to visit but decided that today wasn’t the right time for that.

Then, on February 1st, the Manhattan condo hosted a Super Bowl Party. At my suggestion, the Board authorized spending $500 for the party. Later, in an open Board meeting, I was criticized for spending "TARP" money since we had just increased the association fees by a great big 3%! Good grief!

As with most Super Bowl games, the advertisements become a big part of the entertainment. This year they had a couple of commercials produced in 3D. We made a run over to Super Target and loaded up with the necessary glasses. Hannah came over to enjoy the fun.

I had to settle the question, where was our mother, Nell Rose Robinson Dorsey, born? We knew it was in Buford, but did we have the right house. I did the research at the courthouse and drove to the site.

Here's the house where Mother was born on December 6, 1914. Her mother, Alma Street Robinson, came to her parent's home for the delivery.

The house has undergone several renovations but still has its basic charm. Too bad it was occupied. It was larger that I expected.

On February 1st, we held a football party in the Lobby of the Manhattan. Some of the commercials were in 3D. They gave free glasses at the Super Target next door.

Hannah came to cheer for her team. No, not really her team but her number.

Our neighbor, Taylor, has his favorite team. I have the winning squares. I think he is trying to convince me to swap my numbers.

Mother's Birth House!
Yes, I recall that Mother pointed to the front bedroom on the left, when facing the house as the room where she was actually born. The doctor who delivered her came to the house for the delivery. She clearly remembered it the day we drove up. We actually went to the door and met the man and his daughter who were living there then. I'm glad you got to see it and I'm super glad you found that it was the correct house that Mother pointed out to us. Keep em coming!
