another earlyish start ... we were met outside the hotel by the driver and a guide ... a busy morning started with a drive to amber palace where we queued to get on the elephants which took you up to the palace which was fascinating ... we were there for a good few hours and it was really worthwhile.

we then went to the new palace in new jaipur city which is where the royal family moved a couple of hundred years ago ... their were pictures of prince albert everywhere as the maharajah was educated in england he was invited out to india and they painted the place pink to honour him, which is why it is called the pink city, the fact that it is in fact a nasty beigy colour seems to have passed the people by, nast beige city doesnt have the same ring to it.

we went back to the hotel at about 2.30 for lunch and started waffling to a couple of schoolteachers from halifax who are having a year out and some of the places they seemed to have stayed makes me cringe.

vinod picked us up at 5.00 and took us back to the new city to do some shopping, nightmare, even rose wasnt keen and she thinks shopping is better than, well you know kids watching, he left us for an hour of which we spent45 minutes in a hotel having a drink .. he then dropped us off at a restaurant which had trad dancing good heavens above if balancing a jug on your head and falling over is trad dancing some of the things mr byers does when he is pissed must come off as some sought of south london exotic turn-out

anyway off to bed early start to pushkat tomorrow where we just miss the annual camel fair where 200,000 people come for the racing etc ... more shit everywhere i can do without
