We drove up to ShelbyvilleTn from North Carolina hoping for better weather during our last three days and fortunately found it! Got to our B&B and found out that George Dickle distillery is closed on Sunday and Monday so if we wanted to visit we would have to make a mad dash for the last tour at 3:30 PM. Its in the town of Normandy so we "stormed" over with 15 minutes to spare. It a small batch distillery which we have come to find out have all been bought up by the these large conglomerates such as Diageo who owns 60% of the world's spirit industry. We also found out that it is in dry county with no tasting allowed. What a horrible thing to do to thier visitors. Almost like going to a ice cream shop and not being able to taste ice cream!! Beautiful setting though.
Next day, we went to Nashville and toured the Opry Land Museum and the Country Music Hall of Fame Museum. Being a neophyte concerning country music (even though we have been able to hear it constantly for the last two weeks), it was very interesting. Probably even more interesting was touring
Ryman House
Grand Ole Opry until 1974 the historic district with all of the bars and with live country music going on inside (and outside) at 11:00 am. This looks like this area would be a big party scene well past midnight.
Next day, we went Jack Daniels distillery and Lynchberg. Great tour and I am sorry to say, great lemonade! Damn dry counties! Also, toured the small town of Bell Buckle and Wartrace. Little towns with lots of character and antique shops.
Well, thats it and back home tommorow.
