o well day one was eventful ... we arrived in delhi at 7.00 am and was in the hotel by 8.15 and the car they sent wasnt a limo as the photo will show.
our hotel is in old delhi between the red fort and the jama masjid the biggest mosque in asia. the area is predominantly moslem and the poorest area ive ever seen. 50 yards from our hotel they put domestic rubbish in an open garage and sift through it taking out anything they can reuse.
after a couple of hours kip we strolled to the red fort a most impressive place, you expect far more, but very dissapointing when you got in (a bit like thehammers) all the water features no longer work the british did try and cheer it up a bit by knocking down the lovely gardens and putting up barracks but even that didnt work.
we went for dinner at a famous restaraunt called karims, we got a cycle rickshaw the 1 km there anda bloke the size of charles hawtrey took us he was sweating like a you know what and youd struggle to get a land rover over some of the roads and he robbed us by charging 20 rupees (12p) you have to watch them.
the restaraunt was fantastic 90 rupees for a main course but we decided to stroll back, got lost and wandered around the area for a couple of hours .... you cannot not imagine the poverty, rose did not enjoy the experience but i thought it was unbelievable .... like the worst parts of the east end 150 years ago. but everyones was busy.
anyway we have a car taking us out today round new delhi so we see the improvements the british made to the place
photos will follow when i sort out how to put them on
